Not sure about girls name now - what do you think of....

Due any day and our top name was Lucia but I've suddenly gone off it, help!!

Now thinking of Fern instead. What do you think of this name? Would people eventually not think of Fern Britton?

I wanted something pretty/cute and quite uncommon (Fern is 650 in the list I think).

Only other ideas are:

Xanthe
Joy
Dahlia

I really really love Fern.
Lucia is lovely but a bit frilly for me. Fern is beautiful without the frills.

I prefer the pronounciation Loo-sha

Also prefer the spelling Fearne

Not sure which one I prefer of the two.

Fern is a really nice name.
I do like Lucia too, and Joy, but if your heart is saying Fern, then don't worry about any minor celebrities with the name. You can't predict whether a desperately annoying Lucia is about to be signed to read the news anyway.

I love Fern. Unusual, pretty and simple all at once. Will be calling dc3 fern in jan if it's a she! It's top of my list. Fearne cotton will not be in the limelight forever. Spelling is different too.

I started a thread on the name fern a couple of wks ago. I really want to call dd Fern but can't quite get past Fearne Cotton. She is so annoying and absolutely everybody I've spoken to seems to think so too.

It's such a lovely name though, I agree, so think I may just have to use it. Looks like its becoming more popular :) I like Joy from your list too...

I like Fern and I think of Fern from Charlotte's Web rather than Cotton or Britton,since that is the first time I came across the name.

If we went with Lucia would pronounce it Loo-see-a. Fern still my fav though!

Fern is at the top of my list!! Hubby hates fearne cotton so doesn't like it.
I get that people don't like fearne cotton but she's funny, very pretty, stylish and successful so not a bad thing!
Go with your instincts! Fern is gorgeous! X

No one outside the uk has the foggiest who fern brittan or fearne cotton or whoever is, give it 20 years and Britons will only have a vague idea if that. Go for it.

I love Xanthe. Don't like any of your other names much but doubtless if I met a lovely baby with any of those names, I would be inclined to like them more!

I do quite like Fern and Xanthe, however when you say pretty and uncommon I think of names like:

Polly
Maisie
Sadie
Tess
Josie

Ah goody, thanks florence And nessa and anyone else who likes Fern! Ive realised this is a good test of which is really my fav as I'm finding myself hoping that you all like Fern! Still, tomorrow I'll have probably changed my mind. Again.

Thanks everyone. I think I still like Fern best but it doesn't seem too popular with all of you! My worry with Lucia is it sounds a bit foreign and whilst I've got Greek relatives (so Xanthe would be ok), I don't have Spanish or Italian ones. I'm also not keen on Lucy but could see that becoming her nickname.
