I'd think it was poncy, but my DD's name is Artemis which is poncetastic so I guess I like poncy!

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf · 19/12/2012 18:32

Ooh I love cormac! I knew a cormac once

I've been informed that DSs name is Irish rather than Scottish, Blair. Something to do with an Irish uprising or something.

Cillian is lovely, but you might not like 2 C names. Wouldn't bother me!

Diarmuid
Lorcan
Daragh
Ruairidh/ruairi (fada over the second i in the second spelling but I don't know how to do it!)
Tadgh pronounced tag

Anything there??

GinSoakedMu1berryLush · 19/12/2012 18:03

What about what's important to you? i'm irish btw but as a woman with an xp I say to you sod the irish names and go with what you like! what is important to you? what do you like? seriously?

GinSoakedMu1berryLush · 19/12/2012 18:01

Xpartner? hmmm. I would say I'm pushing this baby out. The name is........ [your choice]

GinSoakedMu1berryLush · 19/12/2012 18:00

I like Padraig. not with an h on the end of it though.

Straw poll though. Has anybody every known a padraig who ended up not being called podge? much prefer Patrick.

GinSoakedMu1berryLush · 19/12/2012 17:59

irish sur name. had a chemistry teacher called mr moriarty and he was hilarious. but....... as a first name? nope.

squoosh · 19/12/2012 17:57

Patsy? Ummmmmm..................

I hope ExP doesn't get to call all the shots. Tiernan is way better than Moriarty or Padraigh.

DinosaursOnAnAdventCalender · 19/12/2012 17:48

Exp wants to shorten Padraigh to Patsy Shock

We will be choosing an Irish name as exp is Irish and for some reason it's important to him. I like Tiernan but it just doesn't have the same impact as Moriarty.

I actually quite like Mycroft

Any name we choose would have to fit in with ds3s name Cormac which Moriarty doesn't really - could always change ds3s name to something more suitable though Wink

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf · 19/12/2012 17:40

What about mycroft instead? :o

I'm Scottish (incase my nn isn't obvious) Murray shouldn't be short for anything. If you still want moriarty maybe use moray as a nn. They are pronounced almost exactly the same Murray is muh-ray moray moh-ray. But I suppose it depends on your accent. I really think you have to say it with a hard R.

Paidraigh is nice. I'm sensing a Gaelic theme. Any connection?

squoosh · 19/12/2012 17:30

Don't do it!

I'd assume Sherlock Holmes fan, plus three syllables is my limit in a first name.

CatchingMockingbirds · 19/12/2012 16:31

I'd feel sorry for him tbh sorry. It's an awful name.

getoutofit · 19/12/2012 16:29

Just no.

NessaYork · 19/12/2012 16:28

Find some old recordings of The Goon Show. If you still like the name after having listened to those, then it can't possibly hurt.

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/12/2012 16:27

I don't like Murray though!

WhispersOfWickedness · 19/12/2012 16:27

I quite like it Blush

DinosaursOnAnAdventCalender · 19/12/2012 16:22

I've slept on it and I still like it Blush

Bloody hormones.

Hopefully I will have gone off it by the time my due date rolls round 42 days arrgghhh

I agree with everything MulledPinot said.

nameuschangeus · 19/12/2012 12:47

I like it.

givemeaclue · 19/12/2012 11:52

I would laugh.

PurpleTinsel · 19/12/2012 11:43

Sherlock Holmes super-criminal nemesis......

SledsImOn · 19/12/2012 10:35

Hmmm I have to say, I don't entirely get this one.

Some of my best names look great on paper but you have to say them out loud and often I find they're all wrong when I do that...but there's nothing wrong with it as such.

I like Maurice - it's been hovering on my list but having decided ds3's imminent name a while ago, and told everyone in the world, it's too late! Smile

telsa · 19/12/2012 10:31

If it were nn Mori, you could have a poll. Boom boom.

I quite like it actually.

CaHoHoHootz · 19/12/2012 10:29

This is a funny thread Grin
I actually don't think 'Moriarty' is that bad. There are DC's out there with worse names and I quite like Mori as a NN? You could get away with it if you had a stately home and a double barrelled surname possibly

It is your DC and you should name him whatever you want within reason

TheCokeMachine · 19/12/2012 10:16

It's Cockney rhyming slang for party - 'Oi, are you 'avin a mori?'

That would be enough to put me off.

DinosaursOnAnAdventCalender · 19/12/2012 09:28

I don't think Moriarty would suit me Grin
