Are Fox and Felix too similar?

Keeping in mind there's another brother in the mix (Theodore), do you think Fox and Felix are too similar to be brothers? Does it really matter?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Persephone, Theodore might not be Teddy to you but it's possible that he or his friends might use that nickname someday, that's why.

Jarvis is nice.

persephoneplum · 17/12/2012 02:36

As I said in a previous post, Theodore is never ever Teddy. Ever. Why do people assume this?

A fox, felix and teddy?

You'll be wanting fido next to stick with the animal theme Hmm

persephoneplum · 17/12/2012 02:25

Thanks all - I was looking for an alternative that I like, to my husband's choice of Wolfgang. I think that probably, they are too similar. I'll be sticking to my choice of Jarvis.

Thank you :)

They're too similar.

FellatioNelson · 16/12/2012 15:02

Or Wolfie

FellatioNelson · 16/12/2012 15:01

Well Bear has become quite popular, so I don't see why we can't have Fox. It doesn't float my boat, but at least it's not dull. I prefer Bear, but with a Theodore that might not be a great idea! Felix is very nice though.

LynetteScavo · 16/12/2012 14:58

And Renard is far better than Raynard.

LynetteScavo · 16/12/2012 14:56

So do you already have a Theodore and a Fox, or a Theodore and a Felix?

talkingnonsense · 16/12/2012 14:49

I think you would end up with Felix, fox, and feodore from all their little friends! Otherwise I like it.

VBisme · 16/12/2012 14:42

Agree with too similar, but love Reynard.

AfterEightMintyy · 16/12/2012 14:40

Yes, they are too similar. And, also, Fox is a diabolical name.

butterfliesinmytummy · 16/12/2012 14:37

I like the name Fox but foxes are increasingly considered vermin so I couldn't name a child that ... Shame because its a pretty cool name

Too similar.

I also think it is an odd choice considering the other names you like are Felix & Theodore, which I certainly see as classic boys' names. I'd expect Fox to have brothers called Grover, Phoenix, Spike, Hunter, River, etc. It just jars a little with me since it's so outlandish compared to your two rather traditional/conservative picks.

YouCanBe · 16/12/2012 13:11

Much too similar for me.

Jakeyblueblue · 16/12/2012 12:51

I actually think you could get away with it if it was just felix and fox. They are alike but like another post says, not in a ridiculous way.
It's the fox, felix and Theodore that sounds a bit odd I'm afraid. Makes Theodore sound odd when actually it's a lovely name Smile

timetogrowup · 16/12/2012 11:12

A bit close, a childhood spent saying "no I'm Felix, he's Fox" and vice versa. But not a big deal!

Like Felix better as it just means Happy.

ps if you thinking of keeping chickens, ever, Fox is not the kindest name.

AmberLeaf · 16/12/2012 11:08

Not at all Sneakybiscuiteater, I meant it sincerely.

SneakyBiscuitEater · 16/12/2012 11:02

Nice passive aggressive there Amber.

I don't think they are too similar, but then I like boys names with an x sound. DS's first name ends in x and his second middle name has an x in the middle. If either DD1 or DD2 were a DS they would have had one x-ending name as their second middle name.

PickledInAPearTree · 16/12/2012 11:01

They are very similar but not in a ridiculous way like say Emma & Gemma?

I think probably I wouldn't chose such similar names but wouldn't give it any more than a few seconds thought if someone else did.

SanityClause · 16/12/2012 11:00

So, Theodore is associated with bears, Felix with cats, what about Reynard, which is associated with foxes?

AmberLeaf · 16/12/2012 10:57

Too similar IMO

Do you care though?

Someone that would call a child Fox doesn't strike me as someone who is that bothered about opinions.

I really like Theodore though.

SanityClause · 16/12/2012 10:57

Too similar, especially as Theodore is quite different. Without Theodore, perhaps, but I don't suppose you were thinking of getting rid of him? Xmas Wink

CajaDeLaMemoria · 16/12/2012 10:52

Meh, I like it.

I don't think anyone ever used to worry about names being too similar. I know plenty of siblings who all have very similar names. Like a family theme. It's seems very normal?
