Our surname is very difficult and starts with the letter 'U' (as my username might suggest!). I think this means that names we really love with vowels at the end (Milo, Arlo, Ivo) are out of the question but would love to hear thoughts on that. Other than that, we have:

Arthur (Artie)
Albert (Bertie)
Wilfrid (Wilf)
Otis (DH loves, i'm not sure I have the nerve!)

We were decided on Felix for quite a while until it was noted at my baby shower that his initials would be FU!

Thanks in advance x

I have a Wilf(red) so am very biased..........Wink Pics on my profile.

EugenesAxeChoppedDownANiceTree · 14/12/2012 07:54

Odie is the dog in Garfield, BTW. I think with the 'U' surname Otis would work well.

Bear in mind that Arthur is very popular at the moment - it doesn't really matter but he could be one of many.

EugenesAxeChoppedDownANiceTree · 14/12/2012 07:49

I like all but Wilfred the best. I know a young Wilf with lovely parents. It has a special place in my heart too, as it's how DS mispronounces 'wolf'. It's a wo thing... he says 'wirrld' too.

emmyloo2 · 14/12/2012 07:42

and OP - Arthur is top of my list is this baby is another boy.

I adore it! My other two choices are Felix and Hugo....

emmyloo2 · 14/12/2012 07:41

HDee - how funny! All your names are on my short-list. I particularly like Lexi-Lou-May. Wink

VickyU · 13/12/2012 17:06

Oh emmylou2 its so lovely when people you have never met stand up for you on mumsnet! Thank you so much for your advice. I try not to get upset when people are rude because I guess, at the end of the day, I am asking for opinions and all that! But, then again, even though HDee is right that posts on mumsnet don't have to pass a 'helpful' test, I think most of us agree that we are all trying to help each other or ask for help and thats kind of the reason we're all on this website!

Anyway, thank you to all. I'm pretty sure we are going to go with Arthur :)

Lol @ Kenny Penny

I think all of the names are lovely Xmas Smile, and I'm not being polite I really do think they're nice. If I don't like names mentioned I just don't comment on them.

NAR4 · 13/12/2012 14:38

Arthur and Albert are both lovely. I know someone with a dog called Otis, so that instantly puts me off that name. Its also the name of the dog in Garfield.

Sirzy · 13/12/2012 06:51

I like all on your shortlist other than Otis

HDee · 13/12/2012 06:48

emmyloo, I wasn't aware that posts on mumsnet had to pass a 'helpful' test.

My children are named Tyler, Shannon, Lexi-Lou-May, and Kenny Penny.

emmyloo2 · 13/12/2012 02:42

"Otis isn't too awful, the other names are shit."

What a helpful comment? And what fabulous names have you bestowed on your children might I ask?

OP - I like them all and Arthur, Albert and Felix are all on my list if this DC2 is a boy.

I like Felix and Arthur the best by far, followed by Albert. Otis is a bit out there for me and the only one I don't really like is Wilfred. I fear he may get beaten in the playground with a name like that.

SantaBearface · 11/12/2012 09:13

I think Wilfred is lovely. It can be shortened to Wil or Wilf and reminds me of Wilfred Owen, who was great and a national treasure. Owen is also a nice name for a boy, but it might be quite popular along the Michael Owen lines, which may encourage some or put others off . . .

conorsrockers · 11/12/2012 07:36

Otis is a great name. But I'm biased - it's one of my DS middle names!

persephoneplum · 11/12/2012 04:50

I have a friend who just had a baby Arthur yesterday (Artie) and I have a Felix! A great shame about the FU thing :(

VickyU · 11/12/2012 01:13

Thanks so much everyone. So useful to read everyone's responses while I'm sitting here with 3rd trimester insomnia! It sounds like Otis and Arthur are the overall favourites at the moment.

Otis - the rest are waaay too old man

banterbus · 10/12/2012 22:05

love the name Otis!

natsmum100 · 09/12/2012 14:12

Agree with other posters - names ending with o would go with surname beginning with U. Names ending with consonants may run into surname.

scottishmummy · 08/12/2012 12:28

the nickname diminutives I don't like,too cutesy
like all the names
but Otis I like best

StockingFilly · 08/12/2012 12:27

Love Otis. Arthur is sweet.

Wilfred is foul and try-hard.

PearlyWhites · 08/12/2012 12:24

Of

PearlyWhites · 08/12/2012 12:24

Felixs reminds me if a cat

forgetmenots · 08/12/2012 00:46

Love Milo and Arlo, and I think they are fine with a U surname, just not an O!

Like Bertie and Arthur, also like Archie if that makes it less Royal-potential! Not keen on Wilfrid, and Otis I like but it sounds like a young name to me, not sure if it would grow with him?... Good list, though, like your style.

Slothlorien · 07/12/2012 22:46

Great names. Smile

IwishyouaMerryChristmas · 07/12/2012 22:45

Otis makes me think of lifts.

Bertie and Wilf are my favourites from your list.
