What do you think of Wren?

As a potential sister for Eve? DH and I plan on TTC #2 in the new year, and while we're pretty set on Sam (Samuel on birth certificate) if we have a boy, I'm unsure on girls names as most of my favourites start with E - Elizabeth, Eleanor, Edith - but I don't want to alliterate.

I admit to be quite taken with Wren, but is it really a name? If you're not a bird, that is. Alice is another option. DH likes Mia, but it is very popular at the minute (as Sam is, I realise!)

And yes I know it's really soon to be thinking about it, but I'm broody, damn it!

Ooooh, I like it!

trilottie · 06/12/2012 03:53

Yes yes yes! My dd1 7 weeks old is called Elizabeth Wren and I adore Wren (obviously) - it's sweet and classy and slightly out of the ordinary.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 05/12/2012 19:39

I like it.

Dds mn is Alice so I love that.

What about Beatrice / Bea?

Floggingmolly · 05/12/2012 19:37

It's awful.

mumzy · 05/12/2012 19:32

Its lovely but if dh thinks its a bit left field make it a middle name and you could still use it as a NN.

12ylnon · 04/12/2012 19:51

Stimpy you eeediot....

Rhubarbgarden · 04/12/2012 19:47

I think it's lovely. Much more interesting than Mia or Alice.

MerryChristmasEverybody · 04/12/2012 17:19

Wren is a beautiful name.

Jennyrosity · 04/12/2012 17:14

Ha, the height point is a great one, DH and I are both tall and DD looks like she's going to be. I'd already discounted Grace lest she inherit my dreadful clumsiness!

It's dreadful. Sorry.

20092012 · 04/12/2012 16:52

Don't like wren there's a place in Dudley west midlands called wrens nest it's where all the nasty people live lol so it reminds me of that, not appealing! Beau is a lovely name

sonniboo · 04/12/2012 14:55

I think Wren sounds harsh and unfeminine, sorry. Also, think about how it would be pronounced in other languages - Vren?

squoosh · 04/12/2012 14:49

Or you could have Ren short for Renee

squoosh · 04/12/2012 14:49

I think Wren is gorgeous.

lovemybabyboy · 04/12/2012 11:28

Sorry, don't like Wren but Lauren with nickname of ren would be fine.
If you just go with Wren I could imagine people calling her Rennie! Sorry!

ILikeSquirrels · 04/12/2012 11:27

Seren too, and Ren for short. Pretty! Grin

sparkle12mar08 · 04/12/2012 11:20

Lauren with a nn of Wren/Ren is perfect!

Ebb · 04/12/2012 11:13

Not keen. How about Elizabeth on the birth certifcate but known as Libby/Lizzie/Beth etc? Or Lauren with the nickname Wren?

pELFicFloorClenchReminder · 04/12/2012 11:08

With Eve? Maybe. With Stimpy? No, no.

Gwennan · 04/12/2012 11:06

Eve & Sam(uel) are both classic Biblical names; Wren just seems a world away! It's miles away from the other names you like - Mia and Alice - so I'm worried you'll fall out of love with it just as quickly as you seem to have fallen for it. It's a risky choice when your tastes clearly lean towards classic, well-used names. If you told me the other names you were considering were Clover, Bluebell and Robin, I might say, 'Yeah, go for it!' but, on this occasion, I don't think it sounds like the one.

For what it's worth, I find it quite harsh-sounding.

Oldandindie · 04/12/2012 10:43

Love the Name Wren !!!! My DGD is called Dara and I thought unusual for a girl but it so suits her and its a beautiful name!

notanotter · 04/12/2012 10:38

Sorry but wren sounds a bit 'pinched' to me
