For a girl. Too much like a Borrower?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Arriety is my second favourite name for a fictional female under six inches in height Grin

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/12/2012 21:53

I love it but it was v obviously a made up 'borrowed' name, not that this is necessarily a bad thing. It's certainly a much nicer name than flipping Wendy (made up for Peter Pan and my hated mn!).

How about Ariadne?

Love Harriet too.

TeacupTempest · 04/12/2012 21:46

I like it

StellaNova · 04/12/2012 21:25

Oh Harriet! The author says of the Borrowers "even their names were borrowed" or something and I always wondered how Arrietty was a borrowed name.

I like it OP.

Screaminabdabaubles · 04/12/2012 20:46

"Secret yearning" - yes, that sums it up!

Rhubarbgarden · 04/12/2012 19:49

I have had a secret yearning to use this name for years. Please use it.

GiannaK · 04/12/2012 11:34

What about Areti? It means Grace/virtue. It is a Greek name.

NoTeaForMe · 03/12/2012 19:06

Could you use Harriet? Arrietty could be a nickname - I know lots of people don't see the point of naming the baby one thing and using another but plenty of people do it!

I love Arrietty, but I do instantly think of the borrowers, the fact the author made it up puts me off!

BananaBubbles · 03/12/2012 18:46

I love it.

Screaminabdabs · 03/12/2012 18:40

Oh, go for it. Smile These days there are so many names around, and at least it's a literary name. Not Beyonce.

See if others on here say they love it. It warms the cockles of my heart. Smile She is a great heroine.

Mrskbpw · 03/12/2012 18:10

I always wanted a daughter called Arrietty when I was a little girl. Possibly a blessing that I have two sons...

The weird thing is it's been approved and loved by both sets of grandparents, who vetoed our fairly normal first choices.
Araminta- MY GOD, i would die laughing every time she got called Minty. Nice name, not for us though :)

OP posts:
Screaminabdabs · 03/12/2012 17:53

It was made up by the author - it's a misheard (by the Borrowers) Harriet.

I love it; but it would be a brave choice.

WonkyWilly · 03/12/2012 17:48

It's only ok, how about Araminta?

SrirachaGirl · 03/12/2012 17:23

The Borrowers. Don't do it.

Harriet? Henrietta? Hetty? Betty? Juliette?

FunnysInLaJardin · 03/12/2012 17:19

Hommily? Pod? I love the Borrowers names

RooneyMara · 03/12/2012 17:18

It's a name that was made up by the author I think..

you could try Harriet? Or yes you will sound like a loon Grin

ikwym though, it's pretty in itself

TurkeyDino · 03/12/2012 17:18

Honestly. I think it's terrible. But I have no taste (apparently) so don't let that put you off.
