What's Your Name?

manicinsomniac · 22/11/2012 17:48

We've done mother's, father's, grandmother's, grandfather's, children's names. But I don't think I've seen an inspiration thread based on our own (maybe we don't like our own generation's names!)

Thought it might be interesting though. For those who want to share.

Also, how common was your name when you were born? And do you like it?

I'm a Rebecca. I think it was in the top 5. Certainly top 10. I was frequently in situations where we had to decide who was going to be Rebecca, Becca, Becky, Bex etc just to distinguish. I still really like it though. But I don't like Becky and am not that sold on Becca and Bex either.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Harrysmummysarah1 · 05/01/2013 23:07

I'm Sarah would of been Simon had I been male

ZipItShrimpy · 05/01/2013 22:50

I'm a Lorna, not fussed for it either way really but certainly don't hate it.

absentmindeddooooodles · 05/01/2013 22:07

im a chloe. wasn'y very popular when i was born, then a few years later lots more started to appear! Still havn't met very many though. Quite like the name :)

YulaBaker · 05/01/2013 21:55

Janine, I'm 29 and only met one other Janine, much older than me. There are plenty in fiction tho.

YoSaffBridge · 05/01/2013 20:41

Anne. I don't think it' ever been that popular! And I'm a lot younger than I should be with this name. I'm not entirely sure what my dad was thinking when he named me. There's nothing about 'Anne' which says 'late 70s' to me!

TreadOnTheCracks · 05/01/2013 20:35

Sonia

TruckerRobyn · 05/01/2013 20:28

I'm Robyn!

I think it's starting to get more common - i know of 2 males Robin but no other females Robyn! I like my name - i get called Rob or Robby for short i'm happy with either - people say Rob is for blokes but you could say that about georgina/george Antonia/Toni

notjustamummythankyou · 05/01/2013 19:58

I'm a Catherine - born 1970.

Although there were a couple of others in my year, I was always the only one in my class.

It's never been shortened, and I hate it when someone calls me cath or Cathy!

andadietcoke · 05/01/2013 19:46

Hannah. Hated it when I was little, and I was always the only one. To me it was an old lady name (the nurse Hannah in Little Women, and I was named after a great aunt Hannah). Now there seem to be little Hannahs everywhere, but even despite that I quite like it now.

barmysarmy · 05/01/2013 19:36

Im a Cerys born in the early 80's not met many others even though Im from Wales although I apprieciate its a popular name there.

StrawbRhi · 01/01/2013 17:48

catinsantaboots- I know a Bongo (Ben) who's engaged to an Alexandra nn Ally!

I'm Rhiannon Elizabeth, born mid 80's. Was going to be Rebekkah right up until a week before I was born and Mum suddenly changed her mind. My Dad made her research the name thoroughly first as he thought it was the name of a witch!

I used to hate having an unusual name and always shortened it to Rhi, but now I love it. Glad I wasnt one of umpteen Becky/Becks/Rebecca in my year :D

Jakeyblueblue · 01/01/2013 17:36

I'm a Louise Victoria. Like it now I'm older, especially Victoria. Hats off to my my mum and dad, IMO they picked classic names for me and my sister. She's an Elizabeth Laura and I like that even more Grin

nickelbabylyinginamanger · 01/01/2013 00:36

Andrea Helen

unusual name but there was another girl in my year with the same first and middle name.

catinsantasboots · 01/01/2013 00:23

Alexandra nn Ally, or Bongo (nn for Allybongo!)

NickyNackyNooNoo · 01/01/2013 00:05

Nicola - one of the 5 million born in the 70's!

Usually Nic never Nicky so maybe I should revise my username Grin

OnlyWantsOne · 31/12/2012 23:59

Emily

LexiLoganberry · 31/12/2012 23:53

Forgot.... it wasn't a popular name only 2 other Joanne's in my school one of which was my best friend, much confused seemed to ensue.

LexiLoganberry · 31/12/2012 23:51

I'm Joanne, hated it when I was younger, friends called me Jo, I desperatly wanted to be called Emma but now I hate being called Jo and like Joanne.

elsabel · 31/12/2012 22:35

Ellie, short for Eleanor (pronounced Elena, not norrr). Always liked Ellie but not so much Eleanor. Ellie is becoming far more popular and i predict in a few years schools will be full of them!

CherryCheesecake · 15/12/2012 19:23

Im a Siobhan. Middle name, Sarah. I don't mind it but hate having to spell it out all the time as my last name is biddulph and I have to spell that too.
its okay in that its not too common.
my ohs name is Glenn Irvine and he always has the last letters taken off his names.
off to name change :)Grin

LaurenCaddy · 15/12/2012 17:03

I'm a Lauren.

And a 1991 baby. Mum named me after Lauren Bacall. I don't think it was overly popular atm but i think did get more so further into the 90's. I don't think its ever been in the Top 10.

My OH is an Aaron.
My Mum's a Michelle.
My Dad's a Paul.
My sisters are, Paige, Keavy, Sophie & Kayleigh.
My brothers are, Conor, Joshua, Jamie, Cameron & Jack.
My nephew is Riley.
And my daughter is Isabelle.

I think a good variety there! Haha :)

Zara1984 · 15/12/2012 02:49

Kim. Hello early 80s... :/

iheartmycat · 15/12/2012 02:17

Can't believe I'm the first Louise to post...mid 70s baby. One of 3 in my class at high school. Was going to be called Natalie, which I much prefer.

Always wanted to be called Laura. I alway get excited if i hear of a baby called Louise now...somehow seems nicer now it's less common!

My year at school/uni was full of Michelle/Julie/Claire/Tracy's.

MerryChristMoose · 15/12/2012 01:05

My name is Joanne. Please call me Jo.

I was born in 1974. There were three Joanne's in my class at school. Two of us had surnames that started with a 'W'. IIRC I was referred to as "Little Jo".

CassandraLemon · 15/12/2012 00:43

My name's Cassandra, but I've always been Cassie. I like my name; I rarely meet another Cassie.
