Do you think the most common baby names used by Mumsnetters are approximately the same as the top baby names on official record?

Assuming mumsnetters are a broad mix of society then yes, you'd expect their choices to be the same as the ONS names, with the common names (Jack, Oliver, Harry, Amelia, Sophie, Evie etc) probably used more often than the less common ones (e.g. Gregory, Robert, Rachel, Eden, etc).

Unless, of course, you are suggesting that mumsnetters are more 'posh' or 'chav' than the average Smile?

Clementine seems to be very popular on MN.At least in the sense that it seems to be on a lot of lists. I wonder how many Mumsnetters have actually called their baby Clementine?

Not the same, first part of what zozzle said.

There are names that, if you read this section, you would think were fairly common but are not, like Beatrice and Elodie.

I would imagine the top names would be the same as the top names nationally

According to a thread I was on recent Jayden is a very common MN child's name. Not sure that is in the national 100. I have an Emily, I do think that is very common on here

lljkk · 21/11/2012 19:14

Names on the MNer top 100 list I expect to be most out of sync with the national top 100 list:

Theo, Luka, Henry
Imogen, Edith, Isla

(and out of sync in different way, names like Destiny & Jessica)

Eve/Eva/Ava/Evie/etc

Finn/Finlay/etc

Percy seems to be a favourite on here, reminds me of Thomas the tank, I feel sorry for any child with that name!

zozzle · 21/11/2012 18:58

Yes - prob alot of the top 20 names with a fair few Florences, Beatrices, Matildas, Elizabeths, Theos, Henrys and Finlays thrown in for good measure (although some of them may be top 20 by now).

Not keen on names that have a whiff of public school personally.

pictish · 21/11/2012 17:04

Um...Emily and Harry.

forgetmenots · 21/11/2012 17:03

I'd guess something like Amelie/Emily/Amelia and William or George! Just a guess :)

I really am this bored.Grin

I was wondering if Mumsnetters tend to favour slightly more unusual names,or if Jack and Oliver, for example, are some of the most common names used by Mumsnetters.
