I have posted twice on the baby names now, one with my first list of girls names, then with a short list. It was for a sister for my DD Lily. From my list I like Ava, but now have just added Violet back on to my short list!! For some reason that name just keeps popping into my head, even though I am unsure about having 2 flower names, I don't want my siblings names to sound tacky. My DD is Lily with the middle name Grace (not double barrell). Please choose your favourite name (I want May as the middle name for both as that was my Grandmas middle name).

Ava May
Violet May

Which do you think sounds the nicest as a sister for Lily?

shelley72 · 21/11/2012 14:37

My great gran was violet may so I vote for that. V pretty.

ConfusedandBemused · 21/11/2012 14:29

Ava is fab

NorksAreMessy · 21/11/2012 14:25

I love Violet...a little bunch of gorgeous flowers
But then, I am a sentimental fool
Flowers

TinyDancingHoofer · 21/11/2012 14:22

Ava all the way. Don't like lily and violet together, bit pastel/floral.

googlyeyes · 21/11/2012 14:17

Violet is going to rocket up the baby names list next year...the 3 people I know who have had baby girls in the last 3 months have all chosen it! I think it's like Oscar for boys, a name people looked to as it sounded a bit more unusual, only to find that the idea spread like wildfire!

Ava is incredibly popular around here too, but less so with babies, more primary school age girls.

I think Violet is a lovely name, and goes very well with Lily. More so than Ava...Lily and Ava just don't flow together as well imo

seeker · 21/11/2012 13:04

Violet. With Lettie as a nickname if required.

heartsandflowers2009 · 21/11/2012 13:01

Good idea I will wait until the baby arrives to decide, she may look like one more than the other. Or may be a boy!!!!

Thanks for your helps ladies xx

Ava May is lovely. Violet is pretty but I don't like Vi at all and so many Violets get it as a nn.

forgetmenots · 21/11/2012 12:14

It is hard! It may be that when DD arrives you just think she is definitely one or the other, so don't be too hard on yourself. Don't think that Violet is too matchy, it's got a different sound (Poppy, or Daisy would be a bit too matchy for me because they are floral and end in 'y' - Violet not at all).

Graylily · 21/11/2012 11:11

Violet is beautiful. I think colour before flower when I hear Violet.

Alisvolatpropiis · 21/11/2012 11:08

Ava May. I don't think there are that many Ava's,I've come across one. Which is the same as how many Hermione's I've met.

I misread Violet as violent all the time.

Yorkpud · 21/11/2012 11:06

I like both - don't worry about Ava being popular it is a lovely name.

baskingseals · 21/11/2012 11:01

definitely Violet.

i think Lily and Violet sound lovely together - they are both flowers, but have very different sounds.

heartsandflowers2009 · 21/11/2012 10:38

Thanks for saying those names would be lovely forgetmenots. I really like Violet May but am just scared it sounds too matchy with Lily Grace but glad for the positive comments. My DD is blonde and blue eyed and Lily suits her perfectly and think violet would suit another blonde blue eyed little girl (as all of our family seem to have similar looking DDs all blonde with blue eyes, strange when none of us look like that!!).

Im just worried if I have to shout the names together when out it will sound a bit strange 'Lily, Violet' .

But I like that Violet is not a popular name so makes Lily sound less popular as a sister if that makes sense?? My worry with Lily and Ava is that they are both very popular.

It's so hard when you like two names equally!

Like both but prefer Violet - and that's despite the fact I think Ava May sounds really cool in a beautiful way.

forgetmenots · 21/11/2012 10:29

Violet by far for me. Goes well with lily (both flowers) and may goes beautifully, both with violet and with Grace (two DDs called Lily Grace and Violet May is lovely).

Have to be honest awaits flaming I've never been keen on the Ava/Eva names, it sounds hard to me somehow, I know that's very subjective.

heartsandflowers2009 · 21/11/2012 10:15

Thanks, it seems more people prefer Violet. It is so hard choosing a name for the second, I think it is because I do not want it too sound odd with the first childs name if that makes sense?

I'm still not sure either way and am still looking for new ideas.....

Violet

Viviennemary · 20/11/2012 21:45

I like Violet best.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/11/2012 21:45

Violet - lovely. Lily and Violet really sweet together too.

picnicbasketcase · 20/11/2012 21:41

Ava because the two together are a bit too floral.

teaoclock · 20/11/2012 21:40

ava. don't like violet, its too much like violent for me
