I know someone whose daughter and son are called Paris and Troy. Really! Aside from being utter rubbish, I mean, if we are going with mythology Paris is a boy not a girl, and Troy is a place not a person! Its Paris and Hector surely? Or Troy and Mesopotamia?

So can you top that? Go on, I could do with a laugh.

I went to school with a girl called Candida Hmm - I thought it was pretty at the time and then I discovered what it was associated with.

I really and truly once heard a lady in the park calling: Jade, Amber, Ruby - in a slightly different order might just as well have called them stop, get ready and go. Has tickled me for years.

PickledFanjoCat · 20/11/2012 20:24

Op, it was like a klaxon to me. Like picking a scab I was compelled to come.

Felix should have a hair cut, Tarquins should stick to dukes offspring only and how about we just have names,

I am OP and I thought the idea of anonymous internet boards were that we could occasionally break out the judgey pants? Hmm I would never ever say anything to this woman about her kids names, that would be absolutely unacceptable however, in my opinion they are silly.

I did try and warn off the PO with the judgementalness alert in the header. Grin

I'm from south wales and we have loads of David Davies. They are always called dai Davies.

Always makes me Grin

BrianAndHisBalls · 20/11/2012 20:20

There's a bit of inverted snobbery going on here though. Someone starts bashing commonly seen as 'poor' names, then people jump in to defend those names. Absolutely fine. But then people start talking about 'felix' and his 'curls'....

why is it not ok to be snobby at names with perhaps working class connotations but its then ok to be snobby about names with upper class connotations? Confused

Both my dc start with a T if I ever have a third it will be a T again. I don't care if you judge me.

Narked · 20/11/2012 20:18

Oi! If Felix becomes fair game so do all names

PickledFanjoCat · 20/11/2012 20:17

Yeah I really get my PO on on these threads!

Narked · 20/11/2012 20:17

I reserve the right to pull on my judge pants for sibling groups whose names rhyme, all start with the same letter (I'm looking at you Kardassians) and parents who name their DC after themselves.

PickledFanjoCat · 20/11/2012 20:16

I'm not offended just trying to explain.

S'all fine.

I keep coming on baby names for some inspiration for ds2 due on feb.

I might stay away after that, tis a jungle!

MolotovCocktail · 20/11/2012 20:16

To be fair, a thread of mine was deleted earlier because I'd unknowingly used a disablist term when ranting about a Post Office worker Blush

The term hasn't been used for ages, and I used the word in the context of 'idiot', so I've definitely been to Putting-My-Foot-In-My-Mouth-Land before now ...

InNeedOfBrandy · 20/11/2012 20:16

Why would you name your dc something so terrible MrsD come on Freya, Sophie, Finn, Oscar and Lily, I'm suprised the registar let you get away with it!

What is wrong with cardi, jeans, boots and a haircut. Much better then letting dear felix keep his curls even though the school keep unreasonably telling you to cut it.
