Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 12/11/2012 23:54

I am going to start a thread asking if I should call my (imaginary) baby Awol. How many votes do you think I'd get?

Eric. Irrational dislike.

AtiaoftheJulii · 12/11/2012 23:53

I think it's just the v! This is the "no good reason" thread, after all!

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/11/2012 23:51

Atia Harvey=liver? I don't get it! Not much a fan of the name either.

MaMattoo · 12/11/2012 23:46

OP have you read Freakonomics? Whole section in there about names and how/what they indicate/represent. Book based in cold, hard quantitative data and am interesting read...

InNeedOfBrandy · 12/11/2012 23:45

Oh and Alison it is a wet kind of name teachers pet like (no offense anyone)

InNeedOfBrandy · 12/11/2012 23:43

My names here thanks Hmm

I hate the name's Gemma and Debbie. Every single person who I have known called these names ( a lot ) I have not got on with.

AtiaoftheJulii · 12/11/2012 23:42

Harvey - makes me think of liver (although I quite like liver!).
Connor with 2n's, Conor is fine.
Callum.
Ethan! Was v relieved to see someone else didn't like it, I thought everyone else loved it!

They're the only inoffensive ones I can think of. All the others I hate are horrible Wink

My dd1's name seems hated by several - you weirdos, what's wrong with you? Grin

yellowbottle · 12/11/2012 23:41

Woohoo! Neither mine nor my DD's name listed yet (will prob cross post with both names now).
I LOVE the name James though. I think it is a classic strong name that will take a person from birth to grave.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/11/2012 23:39

BarbequedBillygoats one of the names you listed is my Dad's and he completely agrees with you. Absolutely hates his name. Actually his middle name is in there too...haha!

Logical part of my brain says they're all perfectly normal inoffensive names. The irrational part hates them
(And my Dhs name is on that list Blush

Dinnerdinnerdinnerbatman · 12/11/2012 23:21

Seth.

Its a bit like the sound I make to scare away the neighbour's cat when he's about to poo in our garden.

And Louise. A loo with wees? Hmm, juvenile I know. Louise's actually seem to be lovely in RL, so feel a bit guilty about that one. But can't help it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/11/2012 23:20

I know a Hana...I think it's an Arabic variation though,as she is Muslim.

Alisvolatpropiis · 12/11/2012 23:18

Somerset we are kindred spirits with the exception of Lily.

I do dislike Lilly for no reason except ^what is the point of the extra L?!*. I know it's the same name when said aloud but I just don't like it.

MoetEtPantsOn · 12/11/2012 23:18

Alfie, Archie, Jayden, Hanna with no 'h' at the end, deborah

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 12/11/2012 23:17

Martha.
Rebecca.
Ellie.

I'm also another who dislikes Mark (I think it's because it puts me in mind of a sea-lion barking ...).

Viviennemary · 12/11/2012 23:09

I loathe the name Toby. Reminds me of Toby jugs which makes me think of jug ears. Irrational I know! Not keen on Alfie.

BluelightsAndSirens · 12/11/2012 23:02
