Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

Yay, me and DD are here! Grin

Michael
Ellie

I know nice Michaels and Ellies but if I consider the names on their own, I just really don't like them.

vamosbebe · 13/11/2012 22:49

I'm with SchnitzelVonKrumm on Melissa, makes my nostrils flair. But then two of the worst people I've ever met have been Melissaa. Awful awful awful.

Ryan - makes me want to throw up. For no valid reason, just the sound of it.
I have a friend with sons called Sam and Jack and I just think 'snoresville' although they are lovely boys and suit their name.

Luckily my name, DH's and DS's haven't been mentioned, hurrah!

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 13/11/2012 22:35

Melissa . A friend of mine married a woman called Melody, which is even worse.

Popumpkin · 13/11/2012 22:33

I've thought of more Grin.

Olivia
Nina
Jessica
Imogen
Kyle

NittyNuttyNoo · 13/11/2012 22:30

Another vote for Amelia. Hate it. Also don't like Imogen nn Immy. Horrible!

Popumpkin · 13/11/2012 22:27

Well, Alisvolat has managed to mention me, BOTH of my sisters and my DD in the first post!

Way to feel welcome on a thread Grin.

Personally I also hate Christopher aswell as Pippa, Petra, Paula and James.

peachypips · 13/11/2012 22:12

Harvey, Riley, Marley, Finley, those kind of names are very boring and of-the-now IMO.
And Ella. Every girl under five seems to be called it! So basically not keen on modern names I guess...

NigellasGuest · 13/11/2012 21:49

Ellie - it sounds like a floppy elephant

youonlysingwhenyourewinning · 13/11/2012 21:37

I don't like Amelia either. I think it's the meelya sound ...it sounds whiney

survivingautumn · 13/11/2012 16:43

Keith - yuk, yuk, yuk

A lot of '70's names I think are pretty awful but I won't name them because most of us (myself included) will have one!!

I personally like a lot of the names on this thread though especially Alice Smile

Geranium3 · 13/11/2012 14:58

and all 1st names that sound like they should be surnames

Geranium3 · 13/11/2012 14:56

amy
phoebe
stephen
anthony
grace, except for 1 or 2 exceptions all the graces i have known have been spoilt little madams!!!

RobinSparkles · 13/11/2012 14:39

Oh actually DD1's name has been mentioned, just a different spelling of it.

RobinSparkles · 13/11/2012 14:37

Wow, I seem to be doing ok on this thread!

My name isn't here and neither is DD1's, although DD2's has been mentioned lots :o.

I don't care because she is beautiful and lovely and if you met her you would instantly change your minds Wink.

[Deluded]

goralka · 13/11/2012 14:00

yep both children's names are here!

curiousgeorgie · 13/11/2012 13:58

Well, my name, my DD's name, my mums name, two of my brothers names and two of my nephews names are all on here...

But my DH's isn't??! And he actually has the worst name ever! Even his parents don't like it and call him by his middle name Hmm

Brodicea · 13/11/2012 13:37

Toby - toes, and dogs (although all I have met have been lovely)
Nathan - big adolescent feet
Sarah - booooring

Mind you, DHs name has been mentioned and a version of my own. Plus I like terrible embarrassing names that a lot of you would hate (like Ira and Freda).

tammytoby · 13/11/2012 13:04

I don't like Maddie - I always think of a very MAD child.

MotherfuckingMorrisMan · 13/11/2012 13:03

I can't stand Amelia. But I like Emilia.

Ditto dislike of Catherine (it's WRONG) but really like Katharine. Kathryn shouldn't even be allowed.

sparklechops · 13/11/2012 13:00

Amelia. I just really, really don't like it. No idea why and I know I am in the minority.

Thomas. It reminds me of farts. Always had done. I must have met a smelly Thomas in my infancy. In my twenties, I ended going out with one for years but he went by Tom so it was bearable.

And Lesley. Just because....

MotherfuckingMorrisMan · 13/11/2012 12:58

lol at 'screw you minty' Grin

I nearly called dd Frances, it's a lovely name (imo) - and I like Francis as well.

My unreasonable dislike is Charlotte. It is so dull imo.

InNeedOfBrandy · 13/11/2012 12:57

YY to Natalies, have never met a Natalie that isn't a bitch either.

rachel234 · 13/11/2012 12:55

If we don't like something there is normally a reason for it, whether rational or irrational.

I hope I'm not offending anyone but these are the names I don't like much
'Cutey' nickname names - Alfie/Archie/Percy/Ellie/Milly/Tilly/Poppy
Names with unfortunate meanings - Claudia/Hector/Cecilia
Names that I hear too often - Harry/Jack/Amelia/Sophie

RightsaidFreud · 13/11/2012 11:36

Natalie
Natasha
Nicole
Nicola

Basically any name that starts with an N

But most of all Natalie. UGH.
