Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

rhodri - husband's favourite.

boschy · 14/11/2012 12:08

Pauline. sounds horrible (but I have a dear friend called Pauline, she is the exception). Paulina is ok tho...

Alisvolatpropiis · 14/11/2012 11:26

But Thomas is a first name that can be used as a surname....as are Charles,James etc. Loads are interchangeable.

sashh · 14/11/2012 11:18

I hate any surname used as a first name, so Taylor, Riley etc.

Charlotte always reminds me off the Macc Lads.

MrsBungleBear · 14/11/2012 09:55

Neither of my kids names are on here! yet :)

I have an irrational hatred of the name Lucy. I'm not sure why. I can see its inoffensive and everyone else seems to love it. I hate it.

RightsaidFreud · 14/11/2012 09:54

I've just thought of some more.

Hayley
Kelly
Kylie

Popumpkin · 14/11/2012 09:44

Just checking back to see if I have a full house yet - no, still need DS2's name to be mentioned Grin. The rest of us are here, including all three of my siblings & both of my parents Grin.

RobinSparkles · 14/11/2012 09:39

Now I'm just waiting for DH's name to come up and then I'll have a full house :).

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 14/11/2012 08:50

Oh yes, don't like Amy. It's wet.

honeytea · 14/11/2012 08:26

I dislike any name ending in son, Harrison, Jensen, also names that sound like a surname.

Kelly, Amy, Shelly, Kylie, Keeley, chav 80's names (my name is one of the above :( )

Quodlibet · 14/11/2012 08:23

WhiteHairReally · 14/11/2012 02:31

Eric
Carol
Paul/a
Amber
Callum
Lydia
Morag
Lois
Matilda (but love Maud - ?)
not overfond of George
Tiffany
Bethany
Connie
Charles
Vic as in short for Victoria

I really have tried to follow the OP's instruction so these are truly random strong dislikes. As a teacher, I've come across a number of the above, either in the classroom or the staffroom - lovely people all, just don't like the names.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 13/11/2012 23:32

Catherine is fine. Katherine/Katharine/Kathryn are all heinous.

HotHotNot · 13/11/2012 23:28

Lucy. Sooooo inoffensive I don't even really hate it. Just get a sinking feeling of Mehness whenever I hear of one.

Only one of my kids mentioned so far. Two to go! One chavvy the other very "now". The fourth is too rare to likely crop up but you never know what someone irrationally hates I suppose.

CindySherman · 13/11/2012 23:25

Ellen - of all the names to pick for a little baby girl you choose that.
Jayden Aiden Cayden Brayden Laydon you get the idea...

MooncupGoddess · 13/11/2012 23:21

I hate boys' names ending in -a. Noah, Ezra, Luca, etc. It's just wrong.

And not a fan of many names with 'th' in: Nathan, Ethan, Dorothy.

Spellings are important too. Anne and Katherine: lovely. Ann and Catherine: horrid.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 13/11/2012 23:16

Am not keen on Bethany, at all.

chickydoo · 13/11/2012 23:14

Freddy... Ready Freddy go!! (Fweddy)
Ryan ( someone forgot the B)
Sebastian....Wet.....
Georgie ( pordgie)
Ellie (Smelly)
Beth (death)
Mia (fear)
Jan (spam)

Maxine....just hate it...
That's enough from me I think Grin

InNeedOfBrandy · 13/11/2012 23:13

I love Katie/Kate I really really really love it Wink

What Katie did were my favourite books growing up.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 13/11/2012 23:11

Katie. Because dd is called Kate, not Katie, which I unreasonably view as a very different name, and loathe her being called it.

lljkk · 13/11/2012 23:09

Joshua. Mind-numbingly inoffensive (boring).
Amelia makes my head hurt (tongue twister).

Yika · 13/11/2012 23:06

I reeeaally loathe Chloe, Charlotte and Grace. Chloe sounds like a disease, Charlotte sounds like a frilly gingham dress, and Grace is a horrible combination of twee and Victorian. Oh, that reminds me, can't stand Victoria either.

My name's been mentioned here but it must have been a mistake cos it's luvly.

SrirachaGirl · 13/11/2012 23:02

Madison.

Bernadette.

Hassled · 13/11/2012 22:59

Boys' names which start with a K. Any of them.
