Which completely inoffensive names do you absolutely hate for no justifiable reason?

I will start.

Francis.

Loathe it. Couldn't say why really. There are no bad connotations - it's neither 'chav' nor 'toff'. It's not made-up or too-trendy or old-fashioned. I couldn't say that the sound of it is awful. It doesn't remind me someone who bullied me at school. It's not even boring. I just fucking hate that name. Whenever I am introduced to a new baby called Francis, my reaction is always: "But why? For pity's sake, why? Out of all the possible names available, you chose Francis? You have some seriously terrible taste there, people." "Gosh, how lovely."

Same goes for Christopher. And Jenny.

Perfectly inoffensive names. Could give no good reason for my antipathy whatsoever.

My mum made it on here, as did my middle name and my DHs middle name Grin my DS name isn't though, yippee!

I hate the Jayden, raiden, Hayden and all other variations of that damn name. Ugh.

I actually saw someone had called their child princess chardennay (her spelling, not mine) which I think is tantamount to child abuse.

Chantelle
Chardonnay
Double barrelled names (Olivia-rose etc, no need!)
Rhys
Tony
Mandy/Amanda
Charley/Charlie
Charles (hate this name with a passion!!!)
Louisa
Crystal
Cheryl
Geri
Gertrude

I think I could sit here all night, I've just realised what a truly fussy and snobby bitch I really am Grin

I personally don't like names that end with the 'e' sound. My ex was a chav called Danny, he had a sister called vicky and a brother called mikey. So it was danneeee, vickeeeee, mikeeeee. He called his children bobbeeeeeee and rosieeeee.
When I found out I was pregnant I was determined to not do the same. The name had to have a definite end to it - so Benjamin / Ben, Alex etc. I've now decided on Joshua / josh.

It wasn't so much the eee sound that irritated me, it was more the way he yelled it out in public. It was so embarrassing. I couldn't have him to the same with our ds.

Romeo with an Italian accent? Fabulous.

Romeo with pretty much any British accent...no.

manicinsomniac · 14/11/2012 23:37

My name is on here quite a bit (Rebecca) as is my younger daughter (Jessica)

Older daughter safe so far and yet she's the one with the most commonly condemned name , both in real life and on here. Weird.

GreatOdinsRaven · 14/11/2012 23:32

I think regional or national accent has a lot to do with it- e.g. Georgette in a french accent.

Some accents kill names

Paige.
Dont actually know anyone called it.
Just seems and sounds like a piece of a book, and not well spelt either.

QuickQuickSloe · 14/11/2012 22:51

I thought I had an irrational hatred for the name Ethan, but then saw a trailer for mission impossible with that horrid little jiz stain Tom Cruise playing Ethan Hunt. So my hatred is entirely justified.

It is a shame though, because my friend's DS is an Ethan and he is a dear little boy. Stupid Tom Cruise!

Paul, probably because of the years of reading Horrid Henry books to my nieces, nephews and DDs, so whenever I think of Paul, I think of Pimply Paul in the books. Stupid, I know. But it makes me feel ick.
Mortimer.

Rupert.

Evan. Don't know why though!

Wes/Wesley. I'm sure most people called Wesley are nice, I just don't like the name.

James.

Brian.

Tracy/Tracey.

Evelyn. Sorry, just don't like it.
Debbie/Deborah.

Devora/h. I know a good few aunts, as I'm Jewish and its a Hebrew name and I really dislike the name because it reminds me of ancient chocolate bars which they'd always give me and flowery teacups and sofas which you sink in to and have to battle to survive in because of crumbs etc; Sorry!

My name's been mentioned a few times as has boyfriend/DP so I'm not restraining myself. Mind you, I hate my name, and he hates his.

mysterymeg · 14/11/2012 16:56

Oh dear seen my name. Shouldn't be surprised as I saw a thread on here once saying Megans would never get good jobs.

Mine is Liam I cannot articulate why I just do not understand it as a name.

CPtart · 14/11/2012 13:50
