I know Nye is usually an abbreviation fir Aneurin but I really don't like Aneurin while I love Nye.

What do people think?

I love it. But only as a nn for Aneurin, which is a great name.

Cezella it was the nickname Aneurin Bevan went by. Whether he said his name Ah-ny-rin I don't know.

Sorry if I'm being silly here but I don't understand how it's short for Aneurin- Aneurin is pronounced "Ah-neigh-rin" so I don't understand where the "Nye" (which I'm presuming is pronounced "Nigh" comes from?

Except Aneurin and aneurysm aren't pronounced alike. Good one on the cultural awareness though.

It can be spelt Aneirin as well.

I prefer Nye. The full name reminds me of aneurysm.

I really like it and it was on our list for DS2. The only thing was I don't like Aneurin and I didn't want to give DS2 just a nick name

My 3 yr olds best friend is a nye and he is completely brilliant so I have only positive feelings towards the name. The only thing his mum gets cross about is people thinking he's called Nile. Go for it. :)

There was a Nye in my year at school and I didn't even know he was called Aneurin until we were in 6th form. I just knew he was Welsh and thought Nye was a Welsh name.

So no, I don't think it would be odd. You accept the people you meet as being the names they are don't you.

Is it said Nie (rhyming with my )? If so I would always assume it was Office style short for Nigel which would make it pretty uncool in my book.

My mum named her welsh terrier after Aneurin Bevan, he gets called Nye for short. Sorry not for me.....
