Just as the title says. What do you think of Lois and Lana as siblings? TIA.

cats

JollyGolightly · 10/11/2012 19:43

Oh bugger have now read some of the thread. Sorry to give offence. FWIW I like Lana but DH vetoed it for the anagram reason.

BOFisAlwaysUltra · 10/11/2012 19:42

Well that's ruined them Hmm

JollyGolightly · 10/11/2012 19:41

Anagrams of soil and anal.

MikeOxard · 10/11/2012 19:39

Thet are nice names, lovely for sisters imo.

Puppypanic · 10/11/2012 19:36

Mork and Mindy

lovethesun1 · 10/11/2012 19:34

Lois Lane! Do quite like Lana tho.

mathanxiety · 10/11/2012 19:34

Lana and Katharine (Hepburn) -- classic and strong girls' names
Lana and Ingrid (Bergman) -- nice Northern European feel to this combo
Lana and Audrey (Hepburn) -- again, classic and strong names together
Lana and Vivienne (Leigh, though she spelled it Vivien) -- classic names again
Lana and Greta (Garbo) -- again, nice N European feel and both classic diminutives
Lana and Olivia (de Havilland) -- lovely, classic names
Lana and Rosalind (Russell)
Lana and Elizabeth (Taylor)
Lana and Sophia (Loren)
Lana and Rita (Heyworth) -- very Hollywood feel to this pairing imo

AGlassHalfEmptyNoLonger · 10/11/2012 19:30

I reckon that as your oldest is Lana, you would probably call them/introduce them as Lana and Lois, which doesn't give the connection as easily. And I think they are both nice names (although once had a friend called Lana who was quickly nicknamed by my dad as Lana the Banana, but I think thats more down to my dad than the name)

comixminx · 10/11/2012 19:08

Also Superman. Mind you in the comics they were all LL's so you could also have Lucy (Lois Lane's sister), Lori (Lemaris, a mermaid that Superman fancied), Luna (Lumai I think: a girl from the future that he also fancied). And then of course there's the guys: Lex (Luthor) in particular. So you could have a nice long run of L names if you wanted! Grin

mummybare · 10/11/2012 18:55

Both nice names and no probs with them together. I'd get them mixed up, but that's just because I'm crap with names.

confuugled · 10/11/2012 18:50

Superman/smallville too.

But I'd also worry caused by the confusion of having 2 Miss L Littlegeargrinders for incoming post, doctor's appointments etc. Much easier to have everyone in the family with a different initial!

VolumeOfACone · 10/11/2012 18:40

Superman.

Alisvolatpropiis · 10/11/2012 18:39

Sounds like you watched the young superman tv programme,Smallville?

Lois Lane and Lana Lang.

Fine names on their own,but not together.

Yika · 10/11/2012 18:37

I didn't even think of superman! Lois makes me think of a Lois I knew at school, and Lana makes me think of Lana Turner. Just lovely. Great names.

BOFisAlwaysUltra · 10/11/2012 18:36

It is beautiful. And I do like Lois too- it actually makes me think more of Malcolm In The Middle's kick-ass mother than Lois Lane. And God knows, that woman is a role model for the modern day Grin

Geargrinder · 10/11/2012 18:32

Exactly!

Old older gentleman stopped my husband recently to ask where we got the name Lana from. He was a huge fan of Lana Turner and thought we were too young to have chosen "such a beautiful classic" Grin

Both absolutely lovely names, and a lovely combination. Slightly retro feel without getting into granny chic.

fluffygal · 10/11/2012 18:29

OP Lana is a great name (biased here!), I don't know about you but I always get compliments on her name. But Not everyone is going to like the same names, if we all did it would be boring.

Geargrinder · 10/11/2012 18:28

Loving the last two posts. My way of thinking is that the names existed before they were given to the characters, so we shouldn't let it affect our decision. fluffy we considered Clara but I thought that was more same-ish to Lana than Lois. Glad you stuck with your choice.

crazy that is a very cool fact indeed.

Frikadellen · 10/11/2012 18:27

I think oh nice names

fluffygal · 10/11/2012 18:26

Ah when my dog Lois was in a dog contest they called her out as Louie! Dumb judges!

fluffygal · 10/11/2012 18:25

Grin well OP we do have similar taste in names! I also had a dilemma with my 2nd DD's name as we really liked a name that is a bit similar to Lana (doesn't begin with L or have 4 letters but still similar). I ummed and aahed over it, it didn't bother DH at all and we went with it anyway. 2 years later I don't regret it. I also liked a name of a BIg brother contestant and didn't go with it for that reason but no one would make that connection now!

crazynanna · 10/11/2012 18:21

Do you know, I have a Lois, and in 14 years of having a Lois, not one person has ever mentioned the Superman connection

But....she does always get called Louise.

motherinferior · 10/11/2012 18:16

I would think their parents ODd on superhero comics as kids.
