I think it's beautiful.

how is it perceived in Denmark then??

Dandelion75 · 15/11/2012 21:25

Love it - pronounced 'Ann-ya'?

Would borrow that one if it worked with my partners ridiculously clunky surname!

Rosiesharples · 15/11/2012 20:54

Lovely!

PrannyHamster · 15/11/2012 20:15

I love it, on the proviso that it goes with your surname. For some reason I think there are some really "Englishy" surnames it might not suit. But since that's a bit of a non-problem, I say go for it!

witchitagrub · 15/11/2012 20:09

I find it bit 'meh' though I don't know why

qumquat · 15/11/2012 20:07

Americans would pronounce it arnya, just like they say pahsta, but I can't imagine any British people doing it. Love the name!

Clawdy · 09/11/2012 19:10

Beautiful. DS2 was going to be an Anya if a girl! It's the name of the lovely daughter in "The Cherry Orchard".

Frikadellen · 09/11/2012 17:42

I dont like it.. Growing up in Denmark I knew a few and it has BAD associations for me..

Lovely name. Knew a british born Anya who had a Finnish mother, and have known several Polish ladies named Anna but who are nicknamed Anya / Anja. Just giving different backgrounds that I'm aware of! Really nice name. Like someone else has said - strong yet feminine.

Dillydollydaydream · 09/11/2012 10:21

Really like it.

seabuckthorn · 08/11/2012 17:19

Name even!

seabuckthorn · 08/11/2012 17:19

Lovely nane

CzarChasm · 08/11/2012 09:21

I really like it, I used to work with an extremely intelligent and beautiful Anya. She was Russian and pronounced it Ahn-yah so that's how I've been saying it - is that incorrect?

javotte · 08/11/2012 08:36

I love it! It is DD2's middle name, chosen by DH because it was also the name of a Berber princess.

Rachelbow · 07/11/2012 22:59

beautiful

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 07/11/2012 22:59

Like it. We have too many Ann-type names in our family already or it would have been on my short list for sure.

LoveYouForeverMyBaby · 07/11/2012 22:57

I would pronounce it "ahhn yah" like the buffy character.

MaryAstor · 07/11/2012 22:08

Yeah, I know an Anya pronounced 'Ahh-nyah'. (Possibly better rendered phonetically as 'Arn-yer' now I look at it)

diddl · 07/11/2012 21:41

Some people pronounce it Ahh-nyah??!!

newby2 · 07/11/2012 21:30

Mary- good point. Ann-yah ideally but I'm not some-one who's bothered by prnounciation by people. As long as it sounds near to the name it's fine with us. Different accents- different pronunciations.

Love it

MaryAstor · 07/11/2012 20:36

Now the issue with this name is the pronounciation.

Are you going for Ahh-nyah or Ann-yah? And do you care if she gets called the other by people sometimes?

JambalayaCodfishPie · 07/11/2012 19:54

V v v nice. :)

VolumeOfACone · 07/11/2012 19:51

It is a great name. :)
