Perdy.......

mummabug · 06/11/2012 21:31

I have become a serial poster of baby name questions, my apologies!

Think we have pretty much decided (other names having been vetoed by DH) on Perdy. Was going to go with full name Perdita, but I just don't like it. DH has his heart set on Perdy.

So, firstly, what are your thoughts on Perdy as a name in its own right? I know it means lost, which is a bit negative but I'm not too worried about that.

(I also love the names Juno, Mila and Anouk but all have been vetoed)

Secondly, Middle names!

Perdy Matilda
Perdy Anouk
Perdy Harriet
Perdy Juno

Any other suggestions? I'm sensing I need a long middle name to go with it but brain not functioning. Thanks Mumsnetters!

My friend has a dog called perdy!

SissySparkles · 09/11/2012 23:06

It's a nope from me. I love every single one of your middle names though.

BardOfBarking · 09/11/2012 22:53

I taught a Perdita who was known as Perdy once many years ago.

I like it but only as a nn for Perdita. On it's own it doesn't seem right.

There was also a girl called Vari in that class too. Smile

BOFisAlwaysUltra · 09/11/2012 22:36

I don't think it works either, sorry.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 09/11/2012 22:32

Yeah, def not made up, is Shakespearian and as someone else said, Joanna Lumley's character in the Avengers was called Purdy as was the vet in emmerdaleGrin.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 09/11/2012 22:29

We were going to have Perdita/Purdy for DD, but we too could not get away from the pervy thing. Shame cos it's a lovely name.

SoupDragon · 09/11/2012 13:52

Perdy is utterly dreadful.

Don't just steer your DH away, veto it completely.

Northernlurker · 09/11/2012 13:49

I like Perdita known as Perdy. I think Perdita Juno is yummy! Though Juno Perdita is also pretty good.

The name was made up by Sakespeare wasn't it for A winters tale? yes it means lost - but the Perdita in the play is also found. That's the point. V cool name.

mummabug · 09/11/2012 13:43

Yes I would be happy with Juno or Anouk as a first name too. Just need to work on OH and steer him away from Perdy.

Mila, or Milena (pr Mee-leh-na) is lovely.

Alisvolatpropiis · 08/11/2012 22:10

I like Mila too!

Ephiny · 08/11/2012 21:10

I like Mila too. That's much nicer IMO.

armedtotheteeth · 08/11/2012 21:05

I like Mila and love all your middle name suggestions. Would you consider any of those as a first name?

mummabug · 08/11/2012 19:55

Thanks for all your feedback! I am having serious doubts myself. I am just not sure about it at all and your reactions seem mixed too!

I do really like Mila (pr Me-la) but OH and others do not. I will keep thinking.

kenanddreary · 08/11/2012 11:47

Please don't. Seriously not a good choice. There are so many amazing names out there. This sounds completely made up and would suit a cat best.

Please keep thinking.

VolumeOfACone · 08/11/2012 11:21

I don't like it. And the pervy / nerdy thing others have mentioned hasn't helped!

LynetteScavo · 07/11/2012 19:11

Perdy is fine.

Perdy Juno is best.

Kelerina · 07/11/2012 18:58

Honestly when I saw your post title I thought it was about a boys name.......Sorry don't think Perdy works. I do however LOVE your other names, Anouk in particular is lovely but I like them all, can DH be persuaded??

Lebkuchenfan · 07/11/2012 14:56

I really like the name Perdita! I'd definately use that on the b.c. so she has more options later on in life.

MoelFammau · 07/11/2012 14:26

Perdy is great! Ignore ignore ignore!

Perdy Anouk if you want opinions on full names.

Joanna Lumley was fab - though her name was spelt Purdy, I think?

Anyway, I'm so so bored of Harriets and Elizabeths.

diddl · 07/11/2012 14:18

Sounds masculine to me tbh.

Like Perdita though-but love Juno.

Ephiny · 07/11/2012 14:00

Sorry, I don't think it works as a name in its own right. It just doesn't sound like a name to me. I would also assume it was short for Perdita.

I think some nicknames-as-full names can be OK, but for me this isn't one of them.

Shinyshoes1 · 07/11/2012 13:56

my cousin has a cat called purdy

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/11/2012 13:54

Oopps, just clocked its you doesn't like Perdita OP
