How many nicknames (sane or otherwise) do your children respond to?

MaryAstor · 06/11/2012 20:49

DD's name is registered as Esme. Sometimes we call her that, but more commonly we address her by a nickname.

Nicknames in current usage are:

Ezum
Ezum Bezum
Ezum Bezum Boo Baa
Ezmatron
Ezmatronicles
Ezmatronicles of Narnia

Obviously for the purposes of this post I am discounting nicknames not tangentially related to her given name, such as Mrs Snuffles or StinkerWinker.

I think that this is probably a completely normal about of affectionate pet names for a child to have.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
WaitingForMe · 06/11/2012 20:52

I'm lazy. DH, DSS1, DSS2 and both cats are all called sweetheart.

Anonymumous · 06/11/2012 22:01

Thingie, WotsYerName, NoNotYouTheOtherOne, Oi...

Useful terms that apply to all three of my children and prevent me from having to remember their real names! Grin

With the occasional "Mr. Miggins", "Sef The Wef The Wef The Woo" and "Gorgeousy Porgeousy" thrown in for good measure. Blush

clarelou13 · 06/11/2012 22:07

Dd is called maddison. She responds to piglet, which sometimes gets shortened to pig, affectionately, drives the Mil mad! . Also maddie mousecat and mads.

Haylebop12 · 06/11/2012 22:15

Dd is Amelia. Answers to mills, Millsy, meely moo, meals on wheels, AJ

Few others to add

MogTheForgetfulCat · 06/11/2012 23:30

DS1 is Cameron - or Cam, Cammie, Cameroon, or Macaroon.
DS2 is Isaac - or Ike, Ikey, Izzy, Iggy, Ikey Spikey, Iggy Wiggy, or the Igster.
DS3 is Laurie (Laurence) - or Lulu, Bula, Lula Bula, or Goo (I blame DSs 1 and 2 for that one).

I really don't know why, looking at those lists, I give my children nice names and then saddle them with such ridiculous nicknames Blush.

FayKnights · 06/11/2012 23:43

I thought it was just me that had many names for each child. Snap Mog, I've 3 boys too, like your names btw both real and mental! Mine include but not exclusive to; Buffers, ciaran-schmiran, Bims, baby cakes, peach, kitten etc etc. I'll probably still call them strange names when they are adults with their own kids!!

missymoomoomee · 06/11/2012 23:45

DS is Mattster, Mattykins, Materoonie, Honeybunny, Mattman, Mattmatt or Bullet

DD1 is Katykins, Kay, KittyKate, Katty, Legs11, Curlycat, Dancing Queen or Pipin

DD2 is Banana, Bananarama, Bananababy, BaaBaa, Baabooshka, Boogaloo or Bananacake

DD3 is Babster, Baba, Babroonie, Babalicious, Bubs, Pickle, Babbie, Abs or Shortie.

I don't know why I even bothered naming my kids, I can't remember ever using their proper names.

DottieRose · 07/11/2012 12:14

None we don't really do nicknames!

Paintbynumbers · 07/11/2012 12:22

I purposefully gave my DS's names that didn't lend themselves to nicknames.

However, DS2 is called Arthur and regularly gets called
Arthur Sixpence (oh the hilarity)
Arthur Chipolata
Arthur MacArthur
as well as Pickle

DS1 doesn't really do nicknames but does also get called Pickle, Flower and Bean.

MikeLitoris · 07/11/2012 12:34

I specifically chose to call ds a name that couldnt be shortened (jack). I didnt want any stupid nicknames.

He is now known as jackie boy or boo boo. Never jack. he also answers to bomb head

Dd gets called katie. her name is not katie or any of the long versions of it. she is also called (her name) cakes.

Dd2 is eliza boo bubbles or sugar plumbies. If she hurts herself or does something silly she gets called bill.

My kids are going to hate me arent they? Grin

survivingautumn · 07/11/2012 12:34

I've got a ds called Laurie too Mogtheforgetfulcat and he gets Lozzy, loobag and Lazlo. He tends to respond to most things tbh!

My dd gets all sorts - usually Moo or Boo and nothing similar to her real name either. Don't know why I bothered giving her a pretty name (imo anyway!) Grin

Snowflakepie · 07/11/2012 12:56

All of DDs nicknames include her given name, she will answer to them all! Things like Evie pie, Evie pickle, Evie pants, Evie cheebie. Sometimes I call her Eve if I'm feeling lazy. My own family nickname is Flo, no one knows why!

ditzydrawers · 07/11/2012 18:47

Dd has so many and she is only eight months! Latest is Minky Moo. Other faves are Boo Boo and Moomin. Her actual name is Marianne....

SuzysZoo · 07/11/2012 21:43

My youngest is Bobbalatta Sausagemix, Mixi, or Sausmix for short.
The other is Nu Nu, Nugee, Nic Nac Noo or The Nuginator.......or Nugiana.
Both are in no way connected, really, to their names, and they answer to all of these (and their real names).

dementedma · 07/11/2012 22:29

Mine are Dodies,ell-well and fofie.
In my defence, the first and last were created by DS when he was little and couldn't say dd1s name - Rosie - or his own - Joseph - and they stuck.
He also answers to chubbers, while dd2 responds to Chickpea

MogTheForgetfulCat · 07/11/2012 22:39

survivingautumn - ahhh, another Laurie, how lovely Smile. My Laurie also gets Loz and Lozzy, and Lorenzo. I am just carrying on a family tradition, we all have several nicknames. One of mine is so well-used within the family that if I were to sign a card in my real name, the recipient might not realise (at least not immediately) who it was from Grin.

DS, 18mo, is convinced his name is pumpkin (or as he says it 'puh-kin')...

He even responds to 'who's there?' with 'puh-kiiiiiin'

Scarred for life....

amazingmumof6 · 08/11/2012 00:07

I loved reading your nicknames, hilarious variety!

We

Joshua - Joshieboo, Joshiemoshie, Joshiewashy, Joshposh, Joshie blue eyes and as he was our first I still call him Baby Boy or Babyboo

Samuel - Sam-bam, Bam-bam, Sammy-whammie, Sammyboo, also known as Picnic Boy as he was 2 weeks late

Michael - Spikey Mikey, Mickymox, Mickie-Mockie, Mickymockster, Mickymonster, Mickyflops, Flopster and also known as Rocketboy, coz he was born 35 mins after we got to hospital! he shot out like a rocket at 3rd push, midwife almost dropped him (sorry for TMI)

Noah - NoaBoa, Snowynoey, Nosey-mosey and also Sunroof Boy as he was born by C-section

Isaac - he was the only one who had a nickname when in my belly, we called him Zippy. now he is generally known as I-zee I-zee and I call him Lovepie. or Adore-a-bubble. he was born after I had a miscarriage (Yasmin), so he's my Rainbow Baby.

Elizabeth - so far Elizababy, Zizababy and Zizizoo, Baby Moo, Your Royal Highness, Miss E, Queen E, Stinky Pinky - quite a list for a 6 moths old! She had feeding problems, but growing nicely now, so I do call her Chubby Cheeks or Fatty! Her brothers call her Girly-whirlie-twirlie. I mainly call her Pretty Pie at the moment.

And of course there are the usual things like silly sausage, cheeky monkey, little lobster, sweetiepie etc. and the less endearing "shut up you idiots!" Plus they know they are in trouble when their middle names get used...

with all this lovey-doveyness towards them I wonder why I only ever get to be called Mummyyyyyyyy....(yes, that whingeing cry, ear piercing...)

amazingmumof6 · 08/11/2012 00:10

I meant to say we have 6 kids, so loads of nicknames - well it's obvious anyway...

Cahoots · 08/11/2012 21:17

I am impressed, I can't get mine to respond to their real names let alone nicknames Confused

wigglesrock · 08/11/2012 22:18

Dd1 - Fia which is just a shortened version of her name

Dd2 - her baby sister (21 months) calls her Lou Lou (its Olivia), we just call her by her proper name lest we get "a look"

Dd3 - gets silly names which my husband uses - usually he adds inator as in Termin inator to their actual names, which doesn't sound as funny when you write it down Grin

MrsHBaby3 · 11/11/2012 15:59

Stinky
Monkey
Pie
Baby
Chicken
Villian
Mr Moo
Moody Judy
Lazy Maisy
And thats just the kids!!

NauseousKitty · 12/11/2012 15:28

My DD gets Doodles, missy moo or Monkey Chunks... Don't ask!

chaosisawayoflife · 13/11/2012 19:10

Dd2 is Hazel. She gets called Hazelnuts or just Nuts. Unfortunately, while I am fairly good at keeping these nicknames to the privacy of our home, dh is not so good at that. We've had some great Hmm looks while out and about!
