We love both of these names (and also Helena).

Any opinions/views?

I love felicity and Helena. I think Helena is my favourite, but I think it's a difficult one for NNs - I don't like Hel, Lenny etc. I like the thought of Constance, but don't like Connie as a NN.

mumzy · 11/11/2012 22:10

I prefer Felicity and love its meaning. Read years ago that Felicity Kendal who was born in the Far East has the NN Foo which is Chinese for happiness and prosperity

ZZZenAgain · 10/11/2012 19:13

Constance , Felicity is a bit frilly for my taste but also a nice name. LIke Helen but not Helena

PurpleGentian · 10/11/2012 19:10

I think I'd be torn between Constance and Helen.

Fluffyfish · 10/11/2012 18:32

My Connie is only nearly 2 but I still love it. She's named after a family member so my whole family like it too as it reminds us if her. She's only Constance when she's naughty

Viviennemary · 10/11/2012 14:04

I like both Constance and Feliciy but if I had to choose between them I think I'd choose Constance. I like Helena as well but prefer the other two.

Geranium3 · 10/11/2012 13:01

constance is lovely, also like helena, what about eleanor?

blondie72 · 10/11/2012 08:42

So do you think Helen is better than Constance / Connie? Thanks

I like Constance better than Felicity.

Re. Helen - yes, it was very popular in the 70's/80's, but it's not now. It was one of the names on our shortlist if DS had been a girl, and was way down the official ONS name list. I think it ranked something like 620th for girls in 2010. So it would be an unusual name for a girl born now, and I'd not expect you to come across many, if any, Helen's your child's age.

blondie72 · 10/11/2012 08:01

thank you all for your replies. could I ask if your children/grandchildren like their names? are they conscious of Constance or are they always Connie? Do they get any rude nick names? I'm not surely I can see myself using Constance in a supermarket for example but I think Connie is lovely, although I knw my parents will hate it!! Is it better to choose a name that I can use the full name comfortably? I also quite like Helen ( our surname begins with H) but I am of the generation of lots of Helen's so it seems very 'beige' as my husband puts it and as we have already chosen 2 very popular names (Olivia and benjamin) for Dd And DS we were thinking of being a bit more unusual for no. 3. What do you think?

My favourite girls name is Connie. Wanted it 14years ago but had a son. We called him Fred.

thegreylady · 09/11/2012 16:15

I have a beautiful dgd [13 now] Constance nn Connie-I love the name.

Jusfloatingby · 09/11/2012 15:39

Felicity is lovely, also Helena.

Not keen on Constance but I think I was put off the name by a girl at school.

BlueChampagne · 09/11/2012 13:34

Good sib names!

MaidenDevon · 09/11/2012 13:33

I have a 2.3 DD called Felicity. Never met another one in real life. As far as nn are concerned, it's the one thing parents have no control over. We liked Felicity a lot so that was the name we chose and what we mainly call her.

Sometimes she is Miss Fliss, but her actual nn is nothing to do with Felicity - it's Moomoo. I used to feel self conscious about calling her name in public Blush we are surrounded by Avas/Evas/Daisy's/Maisy's so Felicity does stand out a bit. DMIL still can't pronounce it and calls her Facility, but that's a whole other thread.

michellec1302 · 09/11/2012 11:59

Felicity is a really nice sounding name. Constance doesn't do it for me.

MaryAstor · 06/11/2012 20:36

I like both names quite a lot. But the big problem with both of them is the nicknames thing.

Shortenings of Felicity are pretty ugly (Fliss, Flick, Flee, Liss.) Connie to my ears is a bit of a drippy name, whereas Constance is a very difference kettle of fish, being quite kickarse.

So...are you prepared to spend half your life correcting people with "it's not Connie/Fliss, it's just Constance/Felicity, actually"?

Unless you like Flick and Connie, in which case disregard above warning, obviously.

VintageRainBoots · 06/11/2012 18:57

I personally prefer Constance.

Flosie1989 · 06/11/2012 18:55

Felicity Grin it was my mums name and is now my dd's middle name. She had the nicknames fliss and flick and didn't mind either

Allalonenow · 06/11/2012 13:26

Felicity is my favourite, though Constance is nice. The Felicity I know gets Fizz as her nn.

lycisca · 06/11/2012 13:17

Constance is just lovely. I don't like Felicity, it's a wee bit prissy and I simpy can't stand nns like Flic.

MaMattoo · 05/11/2012 15:12

Felicity! Ofcourse!

Mythoughts · 05/11/2012 15:12

Felicity, gorgeous name.

remaincalm · 05/11/2012 15:09

I much prefer Felicity, with nickname Lissie.

cantmakecarrotcake · 05/11/2012 14:38

I know a Felicity. Her family shorten to Fliss and Flo.
