Hi all

I am looking for a short, punchy girls name, preferably with a vintage feel.

What do you think of the above, and have you any suggestions?

Thanks!

Dita
Honor
Nancy
Ava
Bette

All spring to mind for short, punchy, vintage.

Gwennan · 03/11/2012 14:58

Love Mabel & Audrey.

Like Nina & Hope.

Don't mind Lois. Think I'd like it if I met one.

Can't get my head around the appeal of Sylvia. Makes me think of a spoilt little girl I saw in Centerparcs who was receiving a stern dressing down by her mummy.

Other vintage names you might like: Ada, Adeline, Agnes, Augusta, Bessie, Bonnie, Celia, Clara, Cora, Dinah, Dorothy, Edith, Enid, Gloria, Honor, Iris, Ivy, Judith, Lillian, Louisa, Lucille, Marcie, Margot, Maud, Muriel, Nancy, Pearl, Rosetta, Sadie, Sybil, Vera, Verity, Willa, Winifred, Zelda.

I love all of them. Classic and pretty without being twee or overused. Sylvie is my favourite, or Nina. Can't decide.

All beautiful choices.
(But not Hope. I don't like Hope.)

RillaBlythe · 02/11/2012 10:43

Nina.
Sylvia.
Hope.
Lois.

BananaPhone · 01/11/2012 20:26

Nina is the noise a fire engine makes (nee-nah, nee-nah, nee-nah.)

Lois is dull. Hope is duller.

Sylvie is nice, as is Sylvia.

I like Mabel a lot.

Audrey is gorgeous.

May I suggest Agnes?

MadameCastafiore · 01/11/2012 12:21

I couldn't call a kid Sylvia - what if the other kids shortened it to Sylve! Sounds like a hairy chinned great auntie!

aufaniae · 01/11/2012 12:19

Nina makes me think of the wonderful Nina Simone.

Love Sylvie and Sylvia too.

Really not keen on Hope, sorry.

mummabug · 01/11/2012 07:51

Forgot to add I really don't like the name Hope (no offence to any mums who chose the name) - to me it seems tacky along with Faith, Destiny and the like.

Nina is cute but definitely prefer Lois. Sylvia/Sylvie - not keen.

birdofthenorth · 01/11/2012 07:32

Ooh, a mixed bag of responses! Thanks all. More love for Nina than I thought. I really like it but DH is on the fence. Zilly I think on the continent it is often short for any name ending in Eena- Katerina, Marina etc. But I like it alone I think.

Molotov I adore Pearl but my awful DH says he can't get past the "pearl necklace" double entendre which has slightly spoilt it for me!!

I like them all except Sylvia. They are all punchy and retro. My order would be:

Nina
Lois
Sylvie
Hope (I also like Faith)

BoerWarKids · 01/11/2012 07:22
