Haha that's my name so I'm biased but it's lovely. It's not at all common. I've met about three people in my life with the same name and seen it on tv and film maybe 8 times. It's a Greek titan in Greek mythology. It doesn't have to be short for anything, mine isn't although people always ask if it is.

Personally i'm not keen on the fuller versions of Thea...I just like Thea! But the name is for a friend not on mums net so I'll tell her your suggestions!

I have an Alethea nn Thea - though at the grand old age of 5y she wants to be known as Alethea all the time Sad I love Thea

Surprised to hear it is popular - no Theas or Rheas round here.

Thea was on my shortlist. So was Dora. Both vetoed by dp Sad

As a Thea-owner Smile - yes, expect lots of Fee-ur pronounciation amoungst the under 5s. I occasionaly regret not going with Dorothea/Anthea and having Thea as a shortening, but I like Thea more than either of those. Fwiw, dd (currently) likes her name too.

Yes, the female of God. Theo is Greek for God. I thought about it for DD but it seemed strange to call my child God/Goddess. But just my personal opinion if course! It is a lovely sounding name :)
