What's your mum called?

Thinking about the cyclical nature of names - those that I used to think of as awful 'granny names' when I was younger - Florence, Edith, Mabel etc - are wildly popular now.

I wonder what the equivalent names will be for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren?

My mum is called Christine (I am in my mid 30s).

DM is Rita, she's mid-50's. I've seen Rita being discussed for baby names quite a lot recently.

MIL is Wendy. Can't see that coming back just yet Grin

My DGM was Vivian June. I love it.

TodaysAGoodDay · 17/10/2012 23:50

DM is Jennifer, in her mid-70's now.
Late MIL was Doreen, would be 80 in February.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 17/10/2012 23:45

GP's mostly had lovely names - Raphael, ivy, Joseph, rosina, David, Mary, trevor, margaret

Riddo · 17/10/2012 23:43

DM is Jennifer, she's early 70s. Late MIL was Denise and would be 78 if she was still with us.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 17/10/2012 23:43

Honora, I'm 40. Mil Christine.

Anste · 17/10/2012 23:42

Maureen!!!

DontCallMeMummyPig · 17/10/2012 23:41

Heather. I love it. Mil is called Gwen. Not so nice! Blush

Growlithe · 17/10/2012 23:37

DM would have been 81 and her name was June. It's such a pretty name, DD1 has it as a middle name. DM was born in June, but DD1 wasn't. She didn't get to meet her lovely lovely Nan though, so it was perfect that she got her name.

WelshRabbit · 17/10/2012 23:37

Oh, and my GM was called Queenie - can't see that coming back!

WelshRabbit · 17/10/2012 23:34

Irene, known as Reeny. If I'd had a girl I'd have loved to have used it, but would have gone for Irena. DP wasn't keen, so good job we had boys. MIL is Sandra.

Ummofumbridge · 17/10/2012 23:16

Dm is late 50's and Valerie (she hates it). I could see it coming back into fashion although wouldn't use it myself.
Mil was Doreen. My gm is Doris. Can't see either coming back!

tipp2chicago · 17/10/2012 23:08

DMIL is Maura (christened Mary-Anne) age 70.

Popumpkin · 17/10/2012 23:01

DefiniteMaybe · 17/10/2012 23:01

owed i love Doris. If my surname didn't start and end with a s then it would have been high up on my list.

DefiniteMaybe · 17/10/2012 22:57

My mum is Julie. I'm 23. Can't imagine that one making much of a comeback tbh.

My exMIL is Cynthia and she is nearly 60.

GoldPlatedNineDoors · 17/10/2012 22:49

Maggie. She is 50s, im 20s. When DD was born I wanted Maggie but didnt want to name her the same as my DM. So I had a similar name.

SilverCharm · 17/10/2012 22:48

Clare....not common in the late 40s when she was born. Her siblings had very unusual names.

Badvoc · 17/10/2012 22:48

Finola. She is 66.

Starfishkiss · 17/10/2012 22:47

Susan; an overlooked name I think!
