What's your mum called?

Thinking about the cyclical nature of names - those that I used to think of as awful 'granny names' when I was younger - Florence, Edith, Mabel etc - are wildly popular now.

I wonder what the equivalent names will be for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren?

My mum is called Christine (I am in my mid 30s).

Mum is Jennifer (Jen) and MIL was Anne-Marie (I'm 33). My grans were Florence and Edith so would be back in fashion!

Minty82 · 18/10/2012 20:37

Haha, me too Schlock! Mum and MIL are both Margaret. I'm very very late 20s.

Schlock · 18/10/2012 18:18

Janet, she would have been 70 in a month if she were still alive.

MIL also Janet, also almost 70.

Funnily enough both dh's grandmothers were Dorothys.

It's a family tradition to marry someone whose mother has the same name as your own Grin

AntoinetteCosway · 18/10/2012 18:16

I'm late 20s and my mother is Janet (she's late 50s).

CallMeTuddles · 18/10/2012 18:13

Vivien (no one calls her that unless she's in trouble though, so it's normally viv).

I'm in my 20s

HorsesDogsNails · 18/10/2012 18:12

My mum is Vivien (late 60's, born in 1945). Mil is Mary (early 60's, born in 1950).

I'm Yvette born 1970!

Haylebop12 · 18/10/2012 17:45

Carmen. I'm mid twenties (not Spanish)

BananaBubbles · 18/10/2012 17:37

ScarahScreams · 18/10/2012 17:35

DM is Agnes with an accent on e I can't do! so a soft G. She is not English.

happyinherts · 18/10/2012 17:34

DM is 75 year old Coral, but prefers Coralie

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 18/10/2012 17:29

DM is Jean, same as her mum. Luckily she decided not to continue the tradition with me. I'm mid forties, she's almost 70.

DMIL is Elizabeth, which I like, but we didn't want to cause jealousies by calling either DD after living relatives.

MadameJosephine · 18/10/2012 16:59

My lovely DM is another Jennifer, it's always been my favourite girls name and will also be DD's name (due in 4 weeks)

helpyourself · 18/10/2012 16:19

Not saying Wink but strangely if she's Hillary Diana, Mil is Diana Hillary, and they were born in the same year.

FurryFox · 18/10/2012 16:12

Mum (59) - Anne
Mil (72) - Doreen

LadyFlumpalot · 18/10/2012 16:09

My mum is called Else (pronounced El-Sah). My MIL is called Vivienne. If I have a girl I would like to call her Amelia which is OH's grandmothers name.

greenandcabbagelooking · 18/10/2012 16:07

Jessie known as Jess, NOT short for Jessica. She was named after her aunt.

bonkersLFDT20 · 18/10/2012 16:06

Mum was Hilary
MIL is Linda
