What's your mum called?

Thinking about the cyclical nature of names - those that I used to think of as awful 'granny names' when I was younger - Florence, Edith, Mabel etc - are wildly popular now.

I wonder what the equivalent names will be for our grandchildren and great-grandchildren?

My mum is called Christine (I am in my mid 30s).

DM is Rose. MIL is Jennifer.

I am late 20s. Both DM and MIL are in their 60s.

DP and I did briefly consider Rose Jennifer or Jennifer Rose for DD, but went with something else in the end.

I have a 23-year-old DSis also called Rose.

AFAIK, all of them like their names.

MissMummy1 · 27/10/2012 15:00

My mum is Kay
My step-mum is Anna
MIL is Rosemary, known as Rose

Perissa · 26/10/2012 22:15

Mum is Jane and MIL is Linda. Both in their 50's.

I'm Charlotte but use my middle name and my 21 year old sister is Ruth.

NymphadoraTonks · 26/10/2012 14:05

MIL Is Shirley, which is my Mum's middle name!

NymphadoraTonks · 26/10/2012 14:05

Ann

auntierozzi · 26/10/2012 12:54

My lovely mum is Sheila and my lovely MIL is Christiane. I'm 44.

InWithTheITCrowd · 26/10/2012 12:38

My mum is called Marina (61) and my MIL is called Carla (64) Both quite unusual, I think. But me and DH both have unusual names too. DS has not got an unusual name - we are clearly rebelling!

littlestgirlguide · 26/10/2012 08:50

My mum is Sarah, MIL was Jean. I'm 30, DH is mid 40's.

puddeycat · 26/10/2012 02:06

My mums name is Rozalynne. Was supposed to be Roselin but grandad spelt it wrong on birth certificate! Lol I love it and if I ever have a dd I will use it as a middle name Grin

NotChristmasCarol · 25/10/2012 15:48

Pamela. She's 65. She has a few friends of around her age (60s or so) with the same name, but I've never met another (younger) one.

I might be biased, but I actually quite like it these days.

Her NN has always been "Panda".

burleyburley · 25/10/2012 15:46

My mum is Denise & MIL is Barbara.

So they're not left out my dad is Stewart and FIL is Peter.

DH's gran was called Lydia and I think we're using that for DC2 currently on the way.

Stiffybyng · 25/10/2012 14:45

My mother was called Mollie, after her grandmother's horse. She'd be almost 80. She spent her entirely life being annoyed by 'y's. My MiL is Lesley.

My grandmothers were Elsie and Edith, so very fashionable.

ProbationProbationProbation · 25/10/2012 14:30

Hazel, I'm 25. Wanted to use it for DD but she wouldn't let me!! She's Edith after my late and beautiful Nana.

Yika · 24/10/2012 19:46

Elspeth. She is 70.

chocolateicecream · 24/10/2012 16:30

My Mam is called Milly, my Nanna is called Constance but gets called Connie. My Gran is called Iris.

StrawbRhi · 24/10/2012 12:56

Mum is Maria (Marie). Shes in her late 50's. Her mum is Vera but known by her middle name of Pam. She's in her late 80's.
MIL is Geraldine, known as Gel. Never Gerry! Shes in her late 60's and her mother was Imelda nn Mary but known as Molly. My daughter is Mollie so I guess the granny name cycle does work!
Ex MIL is Vivienne, in her early 60's. I love it and would totally name a girl that if it wasnt a bit weird to do so

Rhubarbgarden · 23/10/2012 13:31

My Mum was Denise and dd has it as her middle name. I like it, and can see it coming back.

MIL is Odette.

StellaNova · 22/10/2012 11:17

Lesley. She's in her 60s. Can't see it coming back...

WildEyedAndHairy · 21/10/2012 01:03

My mum is another Patricia. I'm mid 40s and have it as my middle name. Think my DM was disappointed that I didn't pass it on to DD and that I used my grandmothers' names instead.

MIL is in her late 70s and Margaret or Peggy depending on how long you've known her.

lovebunny · 21/10/2012 00:37

hazel. she's 77. the ex mother in law is mildred.

serin · 20/10/2012 22:44

BexGershon · 20/10/2012 18:31

My mum is Simone and MIL is Debra, I'm 24 and both my nan's are Ruth and I know about 6 other Ruth's of their age.

sooperdooper · 20/10/2012 16:49

My mum is Linda, and MIL is Bernadette, I'm early 30's - both seem like popular names for that generation

citronella · 20/10/2012 16:47

Vera. I am in my late forties.

TessOfTheBurbervilles · 20/10/2012 16:40

My mum is called May, chosen because she was born on May Day.

Up until that point, a girl would have been Lillian, but my grandma decided a May Day girl should be called May. Mum was therefore name May Lillian.

I love it and so does she.

Mum is 60.

My MIL is Anne Edith, which was the reverse of her mum's name (Edith Anne). She is 63.
