If anyone's not sick of me asking yet, please can I have more ideas! I still can't find a girls name I love and am due in December. I really like Lucia still but I don't love it. I don't like classic names at all, so nothing like Elizabeth. I do like:

Cutesy pretty names
Ones that are not very common (outside of top 100)

Someone told me they have a little call called Ella-May today and I thought that fitted my criteria, but it's still not quite right. Please can you suggest some similar ish names you think I might like?

I hope you are only asking so that you can avoid (hopeful??) Hyphenated names really are not good.

Ella is nice on its own. May is soooo common as middle name dont do it!

I know of a new baby called Elsie - Elsie-May?

Also know of an Elspeth, shortened to Ella, and an Ava-Skye.

That's really interesting as if we did go with Lucia we were thinking of Lulu for short :)

I think Lucia still in top 5 but now Heidi, Edie and Tilly are up there too, so thanks everyone for all your ideas.

I have a dear friend whose DD1 is Poppy and her DD2 is known by everyone, including at school, as Lulu but her birth cert name is Lucinda

Oh I hadn't realised that all my favourites so far end in an 'ee' sound. Although my name does and it's definitely not cutesy. I do like Heidi as well. I know a Honey so that's ruled out (and believe it or not is possibly too cutesy even for me!).

I quite like Mabel, or is that an old lady name?

That's my dd name so no insults please! She is 10 now and there aren't any other Ella's in her school. It's a lovely name for a gorgeous girl

The problem with all the 'cutsey names at the moment is that they will all date badly to an era, whether they're top 100 or not. It's the 'ee' sound on the end that will date them, sorry. The only one mentioned on the thread so far that grabs me Heidi, fit the 'cutsey' sound for a baby and little girl, but is also quite strong name for a grown woman. Which lets face it, Ella-May, Poppy-May, Daisy-May and the like are certainly not. The other one that you've mentioned which I find truly gorgeous is Camille - beautiful name, beautiful.

Thanks everyone. I like Tilly, Bibi, Camille, Edie, Xanthe and Maisie. Prob Edie is my fav of those. Not sure i love any of them though, but maybe liking is enough?

I'm not so keen on these. Do you like flower names. Like Violet and Iris. I do. I quite like Ella on its own but not teamed up with anything as a first name.

What about Lucy?

It a really pretty name which would suit a small girl and a professional adult. Goes well with Poppy IMHO

As noted above, hyphenated names are trendy so you may wish to pick something a little more off the beaten path to avoid it sounding dated in a few years.
