Autumn?

This is purely hypothetical as I'm not even pregnant yet!

But is Autumn for a girl awful? I think it's really pretty, DH is a bit dubious. It is also my favourite season.

Thanks for the replies! I still think its lovely, but not sure if DH and I are cool/quirky/posh enough to pull it off. Our other dc have fairly common names so don't really know if it will go.

No, but I don't like any names that are names of objects / months / days / seasons, be it flowers, cars, alcoholic beverages, or times of year.
Give the hypothetical child a name that doesn't provoke all new people into asking them about it as soon as they introduce themselves, is my thinking.

Shinyshoes1 · 16/10/2012 23:56

My daughter is called autumn. Smile

She was born in January

JoInScotland · 16/10/2012 23:50

I also went to school with a Windy and a Rainy, as well as an Allegra Rainbow, and twins Morning Star and Evening Star Ramsay. Hey, we were born in teh '70s and it was a laid-back hippy town.

JoInScotland · 16/10/2012 23:48

I like it - it's my favourite season! I agree with others who say the baby should be born in September/October/November. One of my nephews and his wife have just had their third baby, born in September. They named him August. I see some bullying ahead in that boy's future.

baskingseals · 16/10/2012 23:17

yes i like it.

AgathaTrunchbull · 16/10/2012 21:34

It's a pleasant sounding name. Agree with everyone above that it'd only work if the bearer were born in autumn. I do quite like Winter, but it sounds more like a boy's name.

wigglesrock · 16/10/2012 20:35

My daughter goes to school with an Autumn and its lovely when you hear it said out loud. I've heard quite a few other parents and teachers comment on how nice it is.

eBook · 16/10/2012 20:20

I quite like it.

Autumnalis · 16/10/2012 20:13

I don't like it as it doesn't sound nice for a name. Otter.

pictish · 16/10/2012 20:07

Really like it!!

BikeRunSki · 16/10/2012 20:06

Only if the child is born in the autumn. The inly Autumn I know was born in March and her name is a bit daft I think!

DizzyPurple · 16/10/2012 19:57

I had a friend at primary school called Autumn. I think its pretty but unusual in a good way. I remember thinking as a child that it was weird though! Dont really like the name Summer as it goes.

JennaLemon · 16/10/2012 19:53

Winter is November to March!

JennaLemon · 16/10/2012 19:52

I think Saturday and Thursday are the only days of the week that wouldn't work as names. not that i'd pick the other days myself, not my style, but the other days work as names imo.

Clary · 16/10/2012 19:49

I always think November is winter but maybe that's because I live in the frozen north! Grin

PrinceRogersNelson · 16/10/2012 19:43

I love it.

DebK2012 · 16/10/2012 19:37

November as well!!!

Clary · 16/10/2012 19:36

I know an Autumn. I used to think it was a bit Hmm but I have known her for a long while now.

Mum and dad are fairly arty, wacky dressers etc so it fits with them. Can't imagine them calling their child Emily.

I do think yr child needs to be born in Sept-Oct to carry it off tho!

MJandherdog · 16/10/2012 19:33

I like it.

As an aside my hairdresser was called Tuesday and when I asked if she was born on a Tues she said "no, Wednesday"...should have guessed really!

DebK2012 · 16/10/2012 19:31

Yeah, but I don't like Winter that's just made up! Hmm

MolotovBomb · 16/10/2012 19:28

Autumn, January, Summer, April, Winter are all beautiful, but I think that the baby needs to be born to the correlating month/season.

DebK2012 · 16/10/2012 18:48

Autumn is my favourite season so why not for a name (people like April!)

tamster83 · 16/10/2012 11:47

my sisters called autumn and she was born in Feb ! I love it however she hated it at school easy target

TenThousandGoodMornings · 16/10/2012 10:49

I love it though I think you definitely need to be born in Sept / Oct / Nov - I would have used it for DD but she is a summer baby.
