Claudia- love it!
Eloise- yes quite like it
Harriet- no, dreadful
Hester- terrible, but Esther is nicer. The huh and ssstt together is too much
Elizabeth- lovely but I would use either Eliza or Beth
Poppy- no. Insubstantial and ugly at the same time.

Tabitha- no, dreadful
Tamsin - ok

sassyandsixty · 17/10/2012 13:01

Claudia - nice and strong, good grown-up name
Eloise - don't like - too frilly
Harriet - good, strong woman's name
Hester - too Nathaniel Hawthorn?
Elizabeth - no, but no - not sure why I'm having this overly strong reaction
Poppy - too trivial for a grown-up
Tabitha - too north london
Tamsin - quite nice, unusual but not too out there, strong but feminine

Sorry Blush 'tis personal preference I supposeSmile 'round my neck of the woods a Tamzyn would be called Tammy her dad would be called a nickname of his surname all his life and smoke weed (this is going from two families I know) and the mum would swear at the kids... I also know a Tamzin who recently went to prison for murder (ex-work colleague not friend) so the name doesn't have nice connotations to me Smile

Devora · 16/10/2012 00:36

Love Hester.

Like Claudia and Tamsin (not at all chavvy; my friend Tamsin was a university professor).

Zombieminx · 16/10/2012 00:17

DD was nearly Tamsin Smile

I like Claudia and Tabitha from your list.

YY to Elizabeth as a middle name.

I too know several Poppy's under the age of 5!

NoMoreMarbles · 16/10/2012 00:09

Claudia- nice but it sounds odd to my ears with the hard 'Cl' sound plus it doesn't sit well as a first name with any if the others as second.
Eloise- I like this but again it doesn't sit well with any of the others as a first name.
Harriet- this is lovely :) Harriet Elizabeth sounds lovely and you could call her Harri for a NN :)
Hester- uncle Hester (fester-adams family)is all that springs to mind for me so likely that will happen with a lot of people...
Elizabeth- excellent middle name :) I like it for the first name too but not with any of the others as middle names
Poppy- lovely but very over used ATM
Tabitha- I don't like this one at all... I had a baby doll that used to scare me as a child called tabitha...
Tamsin- sounds very Chav-esque to me (sorry) I would imagine her with a side pony tail and a juicy couture velour track suit on swearing loudly chewing chewing gum...(specific I know but that's the image that scream to mind...)

My favourite is Harriet Elizabeth... :) it's lovely!

fishcalledwonder · 15/10/2012 23:54

Love Harriet and Eloise.

Agree Tamsin is 80s, Poppy too popular, Elizabeth dull and Tabtha a cat's name.

Can't decide on Hester.

Kaekae · 15/10/2012 23:49

I like Harriet and Elizabeth. Poppy too popular atm. Not too keen on your others.

mathanxiety · 11/10/2012 19:36

I like Elizabeth and Tamsin.

MoonHare · 11/10/2012 13:28

I like most of your list.

My very very favourite is Tabitha, it's a fabulous name don't listen to people who say it's catty, the feline connotations are part of what makes it such a lovely name!

Followed by Hester (Esther is lovely too) and Harriet. Eloise is pretty, makes me think of the 80's song by - was it The Damned? Quite like Claudia.

Elizabeth is Ok but a bit ordinary compared to the names above.

Poppy is just far too cutesy and stands out as being quite different to your other ideas.

Tamsin sounds like the name of a character from a Blue Jeans photo story (showing my age....), very 1980's as someone has already said.

From your names I'd go with Tabitha Harriet.

You might also like; Eliza, Esme, Ursula, Anita, Lydia, Anya, Meredith, Verity.

baskingseals · 11/10/2012 10:45

i really like Tamsin.

also like Elizabeth.

RTchoke · 11/10/2012 10:29

I love Eloise, Harriet, Tabitha and Hester (although I think Esther is even nicer than Hester).

Elizabeth is classic and I love Beth and Eliza but its just a bit plain.

I personally dislike the sound of the name Claudia. I also think it sounds pretentious. I also really dislike Tamsin which has a very 80s ring to my ears.

Poppy is OK, a bit meh but OK.

morethanyoubargainfor · 11/10/2012 10:07

Love love love Tabitha.

Really like Hester, Claudia and Tamsin, too.

Knowmheapsmof little Harriets all of a sudden, and Poppys too.

HolyAutumnGoldBatman · 11/10/2012 02:10

Claudia - I have an irrational hatred of this one, think it's really awful
Eloise - fine, bit bland
Harriet - like
Hester - It makes me think of witches
Elizabeth - love
Poppy - ok
Tabitha - this also makes me think of witches
Tamsin - not keen

I think I'd choose Harriet Elizabeth or Harriet Eloise

amck5700 · 10/10/2012 22:27

Like Hester Eloise or Hester Elizabeth best so far.

What about Henrietta (Hetty) with Poppy as a middle name?

Claudia, Harriet and Elizabeth are my favourites from your list.

manicinsomniac · 10/10/2012 21:55

Claudia - quite like it. Very timeless and elegant
Eloise - not keen, it sounds a bit nasal to my ears
Harriet - quite like it but not very exciting
Hester - like it and only know of teenagers with the name, no little ones
Elizabeth - bit meh. It's ok and the ultimate timeless name but not a name I'd ever choose
Poppy - It's ok. Pretty but lacking substance
Tabitha - not keen. too catty
Tamsin - quite like this

I would choose:
Hesther Eloise
Harriet Elizabeth
Claudia Tamsin
