A 'solid' name is one that isn't cutesy, so names like Lauren (instead of Lollie), Eleanor (instead of Ellie), Catherine, Antonia, Elizabeth, etc are all solid names imo.

ThePhantomPlopper · 12/10/2012 20:58

I know a Lauren called Lolly.

I have a Louisa, people have tried to shorten her name to Lolly/Lolly Lou they get a death stare.

CharlieBoo · 12/10/2012 17:11

What's a 'solid' name???

Marzipanface · 12/10/2012 13:11

I know an Olivia who is called Lollie as a pet name.

evamummy · 12/10/2012 13:09

I wonder when this current fashion for 'cutesy' names will pass - Lollie, Mollie, Poppy, Ellie, Tilly, Milly, Billy etc...

...and people start looking for more 'solid' names?!

soimpressed · 12/10/2012 10:22

I know someone who has a DD called Lollie. No idea what it is short for but the fact that she has a sister called Poppy makes me wonder what some people are thinking when they name their children.

Catsmamma · 12/10/2012 10:20

i'd say it is fine as a nickname, but really as a Proper Name?? Not so much.

Laurel/Lauren/Lola could all be shortened.

mumnosbest · 12/10/2012 10:19

Louise. Charlotte is Lottie surely?

mayanna123 · 12/10/2012 10:16

Lollie is short for Lollipop.

redpanda13 · 12/10/2012 10:01

Charlotte

Lola .. I know someone who is called lollie that's actually a Lola

LedaOfSparta · 10/10/2012 14:52

Laura I would assume.

socksandoos · 10/10/2012 13:41

I knew a Lorraine called Lolly for short

CharlieBoo · 09/10/2012 17:32

My cousin is Lauren and her nn is Lollie

Backinthebox · 09/10/2012 13:40

I was going to say it's a stupid name, but SoupDragon beat me to it. The first thing that sprang into my mind was that the simpleton who was gang-raped and then coerced into a marriage of convenience in one of the Game of Thrones books was called Lollys. I'm sure other people would make the connection.

Mintberry · 09/10/2012 13:40

Please, please do not call your daughter Lollie.

MikeOxard · 09/10/2012 13:35

I know a Lolly, short for Lauren (a child, obv). Before that I could only imagine it was short for lollypop. Lolly is an odd name for a grown up though, especially if it isn't short for something else.

seeker · 09/10/2012 12:59

It's an even stupider name for an adult woman!

SoupDragon · 09/10/2012 12:35

Lollie is a bloody stupid name for a child and your DH doesn't even have the excuse of pregnancy hormones..

willyoulistentome · 09/10/2012 12:33

bassingtonffrench · 09/10/2012 12:32
