I think Mabel is v cute and works old/young. Need a twin name that works. Is Mildred known as Mills/Red a big no or a maybe??? For my SIL. She is avoiding top 100 (almost impossible IMHO). Thanks.

Is she set on 2 'M' names? 2 Miss M Surnames could get confusing when they get post later on.

I love Mabel but don't love Mildred, I think the combination could push Mabel from cute into frumpy.

Lily would be nice but suspect it's well in the top 100.

Don't like either. Mildred is hideous.....

picnicbasketcase · 07/10/2012 15:21

I don't like either of them but Mildred is much worse than Mabel. Mildred goes with Ethel, Hilda and Gertrude, ie, should not be used IMO.

PickledFanjoCat · 07/10/2012 15:20

Mabel's not too bad but could easily be the next big thing as folk search out for different old lady names.

PickledFanjoCat · 07/10/2012 15:19

Not a fan. Not sure why top 100 is being avoided to be honest, that seems rather excessive to me!

Mabel would work well for a little girl. It's similar to Ruby/Alice/Edith/Kitty/Pearl - traditional but not frumpy. Mildred however falls into the other category of 'old lady names' along with Gertrude, Edna, Fanny etc., all best left in the 1900s.

Some other ideas if she wants an 'M' name...

Marguerite
Mahala
Milly
Mirella
Mia
Maya

Awful. Could just about cope with Mabel

RightUpMyRue · 07/10/2012 15:16

Mabel is OK but Mildred is ugly. Both taking old lady chic a bit far IMO.
