There are NO names....!

I'm at the end of my tether with my OH regarding baby names. We're having a little girl in January and seems that we have completely different tastes, what one of us suggests the other seems to hate. (Pls bear in mind, I have suggested hundreds and he's suggested about four.)

We can't have anything ending in A as our surname is A and also quite hard to pronounce, names ending with A dont flow properly.

We don't want anything too overused (so ideally nothing in the top 100) and he hates names that are considered 'chavvy'.

At this rate our poor child will be Baby A for the rest of her life!!! Help!

For a man who doesn't like ch** names he has come up with some crackers... Tahlia is not bad, but Kaitlyn and Breann Hmm

NewNames · 08/10/2012 00:44

Call her January. I think it's a lovely name.

monsterchild · 08/10/2012 00:44

My Dh and i have mostly settled on a name for our DS. But I have told him that I reserve the right to completely change the name when I finally meet DS! Don't underestimate that you will know her name when you finally meet her.

sashh · 08/10/2012 00:38

OP

Is DH a fan of game of thrones? Those names are so close to some characters as to be mistaken for them.

What about Yasmine

How about Talulah?

A1980 · 07/10/2012 21:01

Alexandra

Good strong name. Ends in A but she'll get Alex which is cool for a girl.

RunnerHasbeen · 06/10/2012 12:57

What about Tamsin? It has a similar sound to Jasmine but with the Ta start of Tahlia and ending in "in" like Caitlyn? None of the nicknames or shortenings end in a either.

Or Erin? Corinne?

Good luck!

manicinsomniac · 06/10/2012 12:52

I wouldn't worry too much about a name ending in A. Most of the time she will just be referred to by the first name. A name that flows isn't as important as one you like and, as you seem to have so few likes in common, ruling out 'a' names is a massive precentage of girls' names.

I don't think Jasmine is overly popular either is it? Lovely name.

How about:
Annabelle, Brooke, Bethan, Claire, Cicely, Cerys, Darcey, Eden, Elise, Edith, Elsie, Esther, Felicity, Gabrielle, Imogen, Iris, Ivy, Juliette, Kiran, Lois, Liberty, Madeleine, Miriam, Nicole, Natalie, Niamh, Naomi, Penelope, Quinn, Ruth, Rachel, Rhiannon, Summer, Scarlett, Sian, Seren, Tamsin, Tess, Verity, Violet, Willow, Xanthe, Yasmin, Yvette, Zoe.

You still have 6 weeks after your baby is born to think of a name before registering. Why don't you have a ban on discussing names for a while (of course, you can be making a secret short list of your own) to take the pressure off, then see what your DD looks like when she appears?

Tahlia really wont work as a first name, our surname is too much of a mouthful even without the A sounds together. I do like Tahlia but unless we change our last name it's not really an option :(

MarchelineWhatNot · 06/10/2012 12:19

I think Tahlia Jasmine is beautiful.

CraftyGirly · 06/10/2012 12:17

his responses:

Adelaide - isnt that a place in Australia?
Adeline - sounds too much like Madeline
Catrine - sounds like Latrine
Catrin - not adverse to it

only thing is I dont really like Catrin, or the fact it would get shortened to Cat...

see what we're up against! at the end of the day we're both as picky as each other, might just have to pick one out of the hat!!

Selky · 06/10/2012 12:08

Adelaide
Adeline
Catrine
Catrin

Similiar to ones he has liked?

CraftyGirly · 06/10/2012 12:05

My favourite used to be Jasmine, I wanted this for years until it became too popular recently, I really can't use it as 2 close colleagues have girls called this and it would be a bit odd. Plus I dont want her to be one of many girls with the same name at school...

My current Favourite is Adele but he says he can't disassociate it with the singer Adele...so doesnt like it for that reason.

He has suggested, Tahlia (ends in A, doofus!) and Kaitlyn, which he didnt consider that she would be called Kate for short, which is his mothers name, hence comments like 'oh how sweet you named her after MIL' Hmm, and Breann, which I really detest.

seems like I spend all day recently thinking and scrutinising names!!!

What names has he suggested and what are your favourites of the ones you've suggested?
