The problem with Lewis is that it is only pronouncable in English. Germans, for example, would pronounce it Leh-vis.

Louis, on the other hand, is pronounced phonetically as Lou-is in all languages, the exception being that the French miss of the s.

I personally much prefer the look of Louis over Lewis (but that is just personal taste).

I know four, three adults and one child, they are all Loo-ee.

I would always pronouce it this way unless corrected, it has never occured to me that it could be said Lou-is, I would expect that to be 'Lewis' (know two of those too).

My DN is Louie. Spelt that way to avoid confusion :-)

I think really most people in this country see 'Louis' and think 'louee'. If you want it to be pronounced 'Lou-iss' you're probably safer going for Lewis or be prepared for correcting people some of the time.

Outside of the UK, most non-French speakers pronounce Louis as it is written, Lou-is. So if you choose Louis for your son be prepared that many people will pronounce it like that (and not the French way).

Personally I prefer Lou-is. Makes more sense in English. Must be difficult to learn how to write your name as Louis if you don't pronounce the s Confused.

Loo-ee. At least that's what I would assume unless I found that the Louis pronounced it otherwise then I'd judge his parents and pronounce it as he preferred.

I would pronounce it Loo-ee. I thought Loo-is would be spelt Lewis. Louis Armstrong pronounced his name as Lewis, but it may be because he is American and they do say things differently!

I always thought it was Lou-ee. Never occured to me to say Lou-is. I thought that was spelt Lewis tbh. You live and learn!

I say louis as loo-ee and lewis as loo-is

Unless told differently by the person whose name it is or their parent. Then I'll pronounce it gerjwiggertywoof if they told me to. Grin I go with what they want.
