Henry, Hector or Hugo?

Starting to think about names for DC3. Our other DCs are Eva and George.

Love all three of the above but have a few concerns. Henry suddenly seems quite popular at the moment and as our other DCs have popular names I would prefer a less popular name for DC3 - although it is my favourite. Hector means bully. I'm not totally sure Hugo works well with our surname which is Gates.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Girls names are sorted.

Thanks!

Hubert is good - you get Hugh without potential for reading as Huge Gates. The t then g of your surname is a bit abrupt though but both nns work. Hugo is ok too.

I think you'd have to be brave to go for Hector. It's quite bold in a Roman and traditional way. Heck and the meaning are problematic though.

Fraser just says Scottish to me. Toby is nice. Theodore Gates reads really well.

Hugo as first choice, Hector as second. Agree with others that Henry with George is just a bit overdone.

Other thoughts are:

Sebastian
Nicholas
Jonathan (nn Jonty)
Milo
Blair

I love the suggestion of Hubert - Bertie Gates sounds cool. Or he could be Huey/Hugh for short. It give you lots of scope for a nn

PropositionJoe · 03/10/2012 08:05

You can't have Harry because of Harrogate.

Bonsoir · 03/10/2012 07:51

I love both Hugo and Henry (and I love George even more!).

emmyloo2 · 03/10/2012 07:46

Hugo. Henry is nice but too popular. I don't like Hector.

Hugo is lovely. I have a George and if the next baby is a boy Hugo shall be on our list.

kilmuir · 03/10/2012 07:14

None

OrangeFireandGoldashes · 03/10/2012 07:12

I immediately thought "Hugo" from the title alone, and I think Hugo Gates is a brilliant name. You can imagine a handsome actor / successful entrepreneur / head of MI5 introducing himself as Hugo Gates.

Britchic · 03/10/2012 06:52

I actually think Hugo Gates sounds really good, I don't see why you'd have an issue with it!

evamummy · 02/10/2012 07:06

Hector is awful - its meaning (bully)as well as lack of nicknames (heck?). Hugo doesn't flow that well with Gates, I agree, and Henry is very widely used already.
How about
Hugh Gates
Theodore Gates
Quentin Gates

FellatioNelson · 02/10/2012 05:37

I really dislike Hector. Henry is very nice and I love Hugo. I think it goes with Gates well enough - not ideal, but acceptable.

Britchic · 02/10/2012 03:53

I'm not keen on Hector, just doesn't sound very nice. As pp said, George and Henry together are a bit predictable/samey.

Hugo Gates sounds very cool though, I'd go for that. Eva, George and Hugo - fab!!

Cezella · 01/10/2012 23:15

Hugo is very cute- think it rolls fine with the surname. Like Henry but it is popular. What are your middle name ideas? Not keen on Hector

birdofthenorth · 01/10/2012 22:53

Henry. It's the mot popular of the three for a reason, sorry!!

lovesmellingthecoffee · 01/10/2012 22:51

Lysander and Hercules

bethjoanne · 01/10/2012 22:47

not keen on hugo gates some peoples o looks like a e if they dont join it properly so he may get huge gates.
its like evie for a girl if could look like evil if the e is wrote in a certain way.

henry is my favourite in your list its strong ,classy and timeless.

Ham69 · 01/10/2012 22:16

Hugo all the way! And Hugo Gates sounds cool.

MorallyBankrupt · 01/10/2012 22:10

I think George and Henry is a very predicable combo. There are just so many Henry and George brother sets around it feels a bit 'done'.

SilkStalkings · 01/10/2012 21:46

According to Morrissey Hector was the first of the gang to die. Good song though, cool name too.

Badgerina · 01/10/2012 20:10

Herbert.

baskingseals · 01/10/2012 20:08

definitely Hector. cool name.

jaffacakehips · 01/10/2012 20:07
Grin
jaffacakehips · 01/10/2012 20:06

Oh good names Smile I love all 3...

I like Henry with your other DC's . But I think all 3 would work well

What about Hugh?

SuperB0F · 01/10/2012 19:51

I like Hector. But I loved Eric Bana in Troy, so I may be biased...

pinkandyellowbutterfly · 01/10/2012 19:40

I love Henry, it's never going to go out of fashion, and there's always the option of shortening it to Harry - like Prince Harry does!
