Which is nicer? Of, if you don't like them, why?

Louisa

delilah88 · 30/09/2012 22:02

Both suit the surname -- I wondered if Louisa was a bit too much like all the Louises I was at school with (there were lots and it didn't seem so special), but I feel it to be a completely different name.

Louisa - love it!

BikeRunSki · 30/09/2012 19:55

Louisa, by miles.

CPtart · 30/09/2012 19:23

Louisa

ThePhantomPlopper · 30/09/2012 19:13

I have a Louisa too.

Helena is lovely, I like girl's names ending in 'a'.

lakeofshiningwaters · 30/09/2012 18:12

I have a little Louisa, so obv love it! Helena is beautiful too. Seems if you're the sort of person who loves one, you'll love the other too Smile

Which goes best with your surname?

Northernlurker · 29/09/2012 23:17

Well I'm an Eleanor and lots of people call me Helen, Helena, Elena and even Emma Hmm So I would say confusion is possible!

I like Helena but I prefer Louisa - very pretty and classic.

ZenNudist · 29/09/2012 23:15

Helena - am biased, it's my name. Pronounce Helen-a. Love it :) pronunciation never an issue.

I also like Louisa. Luisa is also nice. Isn't that Italian spelling?

metronome · 29/09/2012 23:11

I am Hel-ee-na Smile However the vast majority of people call me Helen-a at first. If you are in England then Helen-a seems to be the most widespread pronounciation

fishcalledwonder · 29/09/2012 23:11

Both lovely, but Helena just has the edge for me.

delilah88 · 29/09/2012 23:03

How would you pronounce Helena?

OP posts:
scootle · 29/09/2012 23:01

Love them both - two of my favourite names.

delilah88 · 29/09/2012 22:47

How do the Helenas you know pronounce their names?

No, we've never had any Eleanor-related confusion, either.

TidyGOLDDancer · 28/09/2012 21:38

Helena for sure. Not keen on Louisa at all.

ProudNeathGirl, I have known two Helenas and two Eleanors, neither have had trouble with being called the other. OP, please don't worry about this point, it really won't present you with an issue.

Helen-a is a nicer pronounciation than the others. :)

SomersetONeil · 28/09/2012 21:12

Both beautiful, classic, timeless names. DD has one of them and the other would be top of the list for any unlikely future DD.

What a lovely example of just how useful these threads tend to be CremeEggThief!

MoonHare · 28/09/2012 17:25

I like Helena best, pn Hel-ay-na.

Good luck.

leddeeburdee · 28/09/2012 16:48

Louisa for me. Great name.

CremeEggThief · 28/09/2012 16:47

I love Helena pronouced either as Heleena or Helaina. Otherwise, Louisa.

Opposite to TheSurgeonsMate, in fact!

IWantToBeAWomble · 28/09/2012 16:41

Definitely Louisa, (which is much better than Louise). It's not commonly used and very classy.

NadiaWadia · 28/09/2012 16:38

Helena - lovely. Louisa is quite nice though, but I prefer Louise.
