What do you think of this name? We are a French family living in the UK, and we are looking for a name which is goes in both languages and is a classice (Sophie and Hélène are also on the list)

I like the name but the dropped "t" in the middle would bother me. You would have to be really srtict on pronunciation. Love Helene!

HiHowAreYou · 27/09/2012 10:35

I think it's quite a classic name. Nice.

RillaBlythe · 27/09/2012 10:13

Huh, I think of it as very 80s. I would assume Natalie is in her 20s-30s.

Cherrypieplum · 27/09/2012 09:08

Love it! I would've used it but have a close friend by the same name and didn't want the confusion!

Startailoforangeandgold · 27/09/2012 09:08

I like it, I imagine it sounds good with a French accent.

I know one, who's about 9, so not common.

Safire · 27/09/2012 09:05

Sounds fine to me, I like it. Would it be pronounced the English or French way? French more unusual but I guess you couldn't control that much away from home!

sillymillyb · 27/09/2012 09:01

We used to foster a girl called Natalie. She wasn't the nicest so for me it has unplesant connotations, I love your other names though :)

WandaDoff · 27/09/2012 08:55

I love it.
It's DDs name though, so I'm probably biased Smile

LarkinSky · 27/09/2012 08:52

Gorgeous unusual and classic.

The Natalie's I know (two of) have not had their names shortened.

In fact, think I'll add it to my girls list. NB I do like the Russian version Natalya.

Dogsmom · 27/09/2012 08:45

It's my best friends name, she is ALWAYS called Nat though, nobody ever uses the full version.

rachel1970 · 27/09/2012 08:41

Natalie is lovely. Works well in German, French and English and is not overused - great choice and much more interesting than Sophie (of which there are so many already....)

ripsishere · 27/09/2012 02:16

Really like Natalia and Helene, not so keen on Natalie. It sounds, to me, a bit of an itchy name. Like nits I suppose.

Cardinalvirtue · 27/09/2012 01:59

Grim. It was prevalent in the 70s and 80s and the majority of them are now in their early thirties to early forties. It is quite council estate. "Ere Na-alll- ieee, wotcha doin' wiv vat?" I know Natalie Portman is a lovely example of one but the reality is that there are many 'Nats' that are working in shops and are secretaries. That is the reality. Sophie is going exactly the same way nowadays and this is what they are calling their children.

Helene is far better. Apologies if I have offended anyone.

onedev · 26/09/2012 22:55

I think it's lovely Grin

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 26/09/2012 22:55

Nice!

smaths · 26/09/2012 22:53

I have a Nathalie (my mum's french) - gets plenty of compliments

YouMayLogOut · 26/09/2012 22:32

All three of your shortlisted names are lovely :)

KitchenandJumble · 26/09/2012 20:25

I don't really care for it, though I love the name Natalia (and especially the nickname Natasha).

ecuse · 26/09/2012 20:18

Like it!

Natnat29 · 26/09/2012 20:14

Well it my name and I love it :) it will get constantly shortened to Nat though :)

Shybairns · 26/09/2012 20:14

Love Natalie.

Catsdontcare · 26/09/2012 20:14

Love it it would be my first choice if we were to have a girl.

sittinginthesun · 26/09/2012 20:06

DH wanted this if we had a girl, but with the spelling Nathalie. I agreed, but was a bit worried it would be shortened to Nat.

IHeartKingThistle · 26/09/2012 20:05

It's lovely.

But yes, if you're anywhere near London be prepared for people to drop the t!

shattereddreams · 26/09/2012 20:00

It's my middle name. It's great unless you come across folks from SE London who all seem to pronounce it without the T
Nah a ley
So be strict on pronunciation.
