Thinking of this for DC2 (if girl) with nn Pru.
What's the verdict? Is it a bit too off-the-wall?

Are there many Baby Prus around? Will she be teased ("prude"?) and is it an especially bad idea to do it if we move to France which is currently on the cards?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LuellaLovesLavender · 26/09/2012 22:20

Oooh I quite like it, and Pru is a very cute nn! It would be stunning on a little girl!

Dogsmom · 26/09/2012 14:50

Not keen either sorry, I did once have a cat named Pru and I never got used to it.

I also knew a border collie named Pru who belonged to a guy who couldn't pronounce his R's so it was 'Pwu', she sadly died and he only went on to name his next one Bryn! I can styill hear him yelling 'BWYN' across the training field Grin

Kelerina · 26/09/2012 14:14

No No No No. a thousand times no. Sorry! Each to their own. The child maketh the name and all that!

PrunellaDeVille · 26/09/2012 11:54

how about Prunella?
I'd use one or the other if i could only pronounce my Rs Sad

EnjoyGOLDResponsibly · 26/09/2012 09:36

Love it!

bringbacksideburns · 26/09/2012 09:35

I don't like it.

I do like the suggestion earlier - Honor.

HiHowAreYou · 26/09/2012 09:34

It makes me think of that toilet training book. But that's probably just me!

EdMcDunnough · 26/09/2012 09:25

I quite like it.

marriednotdead · 26/09/2012 09:19

I have a distant relative called Prudence, about 50 now. She always hated her name and had the piss taken constantly. Please don't do it.

Mama1980 · 26/09/2012 09:11

I like it Smile how about Temperance?

Hedwig3 · 26/09/2012 09:10

Fabulous!

ViviPru · 26/09/2012 08:57

I think it's marvellous!
So do I, dearprudence Wink

dearprudence · 25/09/2012 22:48

I think it's marvellous! Wink

Actually, we did think about Prudence for a girl, but it wasn't our final choice.

lollystix · 25/09/2012 22:44

Clementine?

jaffacakehips · 25/09/2012 22:23

What about Angelica?

wizzler · 25/09/2012 22:19

I love Prudence... have you read Precious Bane ? ..
Also like Faith, and Clemency...

BananaBubbles · 25/09/2012 22:16

Verity and Felicity go very well together imho.

I would be seriously pissed off if my hypothetical sister got a lovely name like Verity, and I got landed with the incredibly unattractive Prudence.

BananaBubbles · 25/09/2012 22:15

No,no and a thousand times no to Prudence. It's hideous.

Llanbobl · 25/09/2012 22:03

Boniface, Clement, Francis (nn Frank - maybe stretching it a bit) and my favourite Felix

TheOnlyPersonInTheRoom · 25/09/2012 21:35

Ha I know what you're saying about cats bum mouth... But I sort of think that might be 'old' connotation and maybe there should be a new wave of Prudences!

Felicity is beautiful but DD1 is Verity and I think it's too similar?

I'm going to work on Honor but I'm not dropping Prudence. It was good enough for The Beatles after all...

Are there many boys virtue names btw? I can only think of Ernest Confused

NannyPlumBum · 25/09/2012 21:34

My mums middle name was Prudence and she HATED it. I mean, if any of us kids ever mentioned it - it was not a joke or something to be laughed at. She HATED it.
Not saying your dd would... Everyone has different opinions of names for one silly reason or another...
If u love it, choose it! Wink

YouMayLogOut · 25/09/2012 21:33

I quite like it. Patience is nice too.

Felicity
Clemency
Grace
Verity
Joy
Serenity/Serena
Gloria
Blythe
Angela
Harmony
Melody
Sophia (Wisdom)

Dominodonkey · 25/09/2012 21:30

Prudence makes me think of Gordon Brown and someone with a cats bum mouth!A colleague of mine has a daughter called True. Quite pretty..

Llanbobl · 25/09/2012 21:30

Pity about Honor, Liberty is good. Chastity makes me think of Emmerdale. There is also Grace, but that's quite popular at the moment. There is also Mercy (but maybe not if you're thinking of living in France Wink), Felicity and Blithe/Blythe

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 25/09/2012 21:18

Chastity? :o

Liberty is another one.
