What do you think of the name Nancy?

Is it fun or do all the bad Nancys ruin it? Beth Orton's daughter is called Nancy apparently.

Don't like it, old fashioned, abit ' posh' and the whole 'nancy boy' thing would worry me.

I think it would be nice on a child of 'now' IYSWIM?

I remember it on older women when I was very young [im late 30s] but I think we are far along enough now for it to work.

My wonderful gran was Nancy, and DD's middle name is Nancy after her. So I love it, personally.

I love it. Also my grandmother was called Nancy. We'll use it for a middle name if it's a girl though as DP's less keen.

His son is called Arthur, another MN favourite. Grin

Wouldn't put me off them though, they are universal names (like David - I don't think of Cameron every time I meet a David).

Yes - his other daughter is Florence too (v popular on Mumsnet, although I never hear of babies being called Florence). Tory names!

Call-me-dave's daughter (the one he left in the pub) is called Nancy, isn't she?
That would put me right off it.

Nancy is a name that's really grown on me.

I wouldn't have considered it for my own DD but there are couple of Nancys at school and I think it's a lovely name now!!

Like it, it was my girl name for DS. I think it is a strong female name and not at all frilly.

I love it and I don't think it would be shortened necessarily to the awful nan or nance, no one has ever shortened my name: Anthea, to the expected 'Ann' or 'Thea' ...although I think i would have liked Thea.

It's not that I think anyone would tease her for it, but that's just the association I have, and it puts me off the name - sorry Sad

Love it and would've had it for DD but felt it was getting popular. Also it's a pet name for Anne which put me off a bit but I couldn't explain why!!
