LuellaLovesLavender Grin you know more then me! And there was me thinking they had chosen a nice normal name.

LuellaLovesLavender · 20/09/2012 21:21

Ladymargoletta she called him Edward Duke but just calls him Duke!.....it's slightly sad that I know this!

BalloonSlayer · 20/09/2012 18:32

Makes me think of Marlene from Only Fools and Horses.

In fact I caught a bit of that spin-off the other day and as I sprinted for the remote control it seems that their new Great Dane is indeed called Earl.

IceCubes · 20/09/2012 18:28

How about Luke? Please don't use Duke!!!

birdofthenorth · 20/09/2012 17:49

Well, I think it's great. Very old gent. But then I like Earl too, and would use Wyatt for a boy (family name -I love it) -which are both mocked on this thread, I see!

Everyone told me DD's name was a cow's name. Now people associate it with a lovely gorgeous toddler I think they are won over and I don't give a shit if they're not 'cause they're clearly only happy with the same old cutsie top 100 names

YouOldSlag · 20/09/2012 17:01

If you ever shout your child's name in the park, a dog with a stick in its mouth will run up to you instead.

You will have to live with a lifetime of eye rolling and tutting from others.

yousankmybattleship · 20/09/2012 16:58

If you're expecting a German Shepherd, yes. If you're hoping for a normal person baby, then no!

YouMayLogOut · 20/09/2012 16:57

Don't like it, sorry.

BlueberryHill · 20/09/2012 16:57

John Wayne as well, lots of get off your horse and drink your milk jokes. I know I'm old.

PineappleBed · 20/09/2012 16:56

I don't like it, to me it's like calling him "mr" or "dr" it's a title to me rather than a name.

CakeBump · 20/09/2012 16:54

Reminds me of Dukie from The Wire.

Ended up a crackhead....

CremeEggThief · 20/09/2012 16:53

John Wayne!

lisaro · 20/09/2012 16:53

Very creative. 1/10.

MrsJohnDeere · 20/09/2012 16:52

Awful

German Shepherd name

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/09/2012 16:50

Sorry, but Duke is terrible! I wouldn't even give that name to my dog!

Xiaoxiong · 20/09/2012 16:49

Anyone know the song "Duke of Earl"? Grin

But seriously, speaking as an American, you don't want to name your child after Uncle Duke from Doonesbury...

coffeeinbed · 20/09/2012 16:42

Only if he has a sibling called Wyatt.
Preferably a girl.

NadiaWadia · 20/09/2012 16:40

American and old-fashioned.

LadyMargolotta · 20/09/2012 16:38

Luella didn't she call him Edward?

DontCallMeMummyPig · 20/09/2012 16:25

I love it. I have a friend who's DS1 is Duke and DS2 is Carter. V cool.

LuellaLovesLavender · 20/09/2012 16:24

Didn't Giulianna Ranic call her baby Duke recently? I think it's nice! But I don't think you will get a good reaction from muumsnet to it Wink

scaevola · 20/09/2012 16:19

I'd expect a labrador.

FastidiaBlueberry · 20/09/2012 16:10

Pochemuchka is right
It is definitely a dog's name

LadyMargolotta · 20/09/2012 16:09

As bad as Earl.

Devora · 20/09/2012 16:09

I really hate it, I"m afraid. Normally I refrain from commenting on names I don't like, but this one has pulled me out of my torpor.
