What do you think?

I really like it. It does make me hum Beck songs in my head, but that would only be people of a certain age...

nooka · 18/09/2012 06:36

Beck/Becks to me is a nn for Rebecca.

I suppose people would think you were fans of the singer perhaps?

Sounds very nick name like to me, I'd not like it as a full name personally, and Beckett to me is not a name, the only association I'd have is with Samuel Beckett the poet/playwright or perhaps Thomas Becket the murdered Archbishop.

But then I know that people like using surnames as first names (I know some children with what I think are very odd names like Tanner and Cooper) so perhaps it would be just accepted as mainstream now.

lisaro · 17/09/2012 22:42

No. Why not pick a real name?

Badgerina · 17/09/2012 22:16

I like it. A friend on Facebook has a son called Beck. It's cool.

mayanna123 · 17/09/2012 22:08

I've never heard it as a name before but think Beck would be a cool name for a boy - easy to spell, pronounce and not overused. So, why not?

bananaramma · 17/09/2012 22:02

I think Beck is a great name, especially as a nickname for Beckett.

Gwennan · 17/09/2012 21:34

I really like it too but probably partly because it's got sentimental value for me as a family surname that's died out through marriage.

Gwennan · 17/09/2012 21:33

I really like it too but probably partly because it's got sentimental value for m as a family surname that's died out through marriage.

effingwotsits · 17/09/2012 21:29

I really like it.

Thanks all for your honoured opinions. I quite like Brook, Bunbaker but then i'd be a bit nervous people assume it was nn for Brooklyn.

PurplyWurply anyone who made that association out loud in real life would immediately be outed as an MNer [Shock] wouldn't they?

Soooo, unless something that really knocks my socks off namewise appears, I might have to let DP get his way with this one. (and keep fingers crossed its a girl).

I like it. I was in love with a boy called Beck in primary school. He was Scottish. And gorgeous.

BonnieBumble · 17/09/2012 20:43

I really like it. We had Beckett on our list for ds1 8 years ago and would have shortened it to Beck.

suebfg · 17/09/2012 20:42

Not a fan, sorry

DairyNips · 17/09/2012 20:41

Love this name, we really wanted to use it for ds3 but there's a (very cool) boy in my ds1's class called that.

Bunbaker · 17/09/2012 20:38

What about Brook/Brooke instead. I know a Brooke.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/09/2012 20:38

No, sorry.

Sounds like beer! Don't really like it sorry!

MrsJohnDeere · 17/09/2012 20:03

Nay

PurplyWurply · 17/09/2012 19:34

I fear the nn Boak would be too obvious.

turningvioletviolet · 17/09/2012 17:16

Ds(15) has a friend called Beck - I actually think it's quite cool, and that's given that Ds is called George, and the name Beck is waaay out of the usual type of name I would go for. As far as DS is aware Beck is not short for anything.

squoosh · 17/09/2012 17:01

The only Beck I know is a Rebecca.

I'd assume you were fans of the singer.

camsie · 17/09/2012 16:56

I love it! It's on our shortlist if we have another boy. Very cool. Would probably have it as a nn for Beckett.

TittyWhistles · 17/09/2012 16:52

I'm inclined to agree BackforGood. It sounds like it should be short for something else.

DP really likes it for its dictionar definition of "brook or swift flowing stream" I'm not too sure. We don't have any other boys names lined up.

Don't remember anyone else in Cracker jkklpu but Robbie Coltrane, isn't it funny how hearing something as simple as a name can spark off this whole negative or positive association thing?

I've only ever heard of Beck Hanson who did that 'Im a loser baby' song.
