I like Joan. To me it sounds graceful and sophisticated. But I think it needs a few more years before it's ready to come back. I meet lots of women called Joan aged 65-75. I think it seems to take longer than that for names to come back round again.

Sybil, Ethel, Agatha, Meryl and Beryl. Ida, Edna, Greta, Hattie, Mary, Jane, Dorothy, Irene, Effie, Jean and Joan. Joyce? Virginia?Gloria? Theresa, Nancy and Sally.

I don't feel Patricia, Geraldine, Barbara and Helen. Or Norma, or Phyllis.

Not Gladys, my dear Great aunty G would turn in her grave (except she was cremated).

She hated her name, always signed cards Auntie G.
My aunt (her niece) has it as a middle name and she hates it too!

I think some granny chic names are really nice and classic.

But other names I hear I just imagine an old bag in Last of The Summer Wine. With American tan tights, tight rollers, hair hanky, ditsy print tea dress and wrinkles

I know an Edith, a Gladys, a Betty and a Betsy all under 3.
An Elsie who is 7 and a Thora who is 12.

I like Dora and Mabel.

I would imagine it will be a bit longer before Doreen, Noreen and Maureen make a big comeback. I do like Maura though, Dora is big and Nora could be on the way.
