DD is Honor and so I need something that goes with that. I'd thought of my girls names for her sister but it turns out I'm not going to get to use them! I like Gus but am not keen on Angus or Augustus & wouldn't use an abbreviation as birth certificate name. Would really welcome suggestions as I'm feeling a bit unimaginative. Somehow there seems to be more choice for girls!

Devora - love Sam but it doesn't work with our surname. Not so keen on Joel.

Baskingseals - your little boys obviously have good names!

Saskia - DH still vetoing Atticus but have a few months to persuade him!

xxxresixxx - Only thing I find with those kinds of names is that they all make me think of people I know or are names of brothers/cousins etc and I want something new for my baby...

hallelouja - I can understand why they just went for Gus given the long versions but I want an unabbreviated name for the birth certificate, even if it never gets used.

Thanks everyone for thoughts so far!

I know a litle boy just called Gus. Just saying.

xxxresixxx · 16/09/2012 21:55

I took inspiration from my peers as a child a 80'a names seem to be out of fashion- Neall, Matthew, Nathaniel, David, Andrew, James, Paul, Samuel, etc

saskia87 · 16/09/2012 21:37

Love Honor and Atticus together. Also Felix and Teddy (nn for Theodore/Edward) are nice.

baskingseals · 16/09/2012 21:12

still like Kit as well, especially with Christian as a full name.

baskingseals · 16/09/2012 21:11

only slightly biased here, but i am going for Gabriel.

you have both my sons' names on your list Grin, but dd is not Honor, though funnily enough it was in the running.

Devora · 16/09/2012 21:06

Of your list I like Laurie/Lawrie best - cute name. And then probably Gabriel and Felix.

How about Joel? Samuel?

schplappo · 16/09/2012 21:04

So, I've come up with my potential list! In no particular order:

Honor and Hal/Harry (Henry)

Honor and George

Honor and Jonty/Johnnie/Jack (John)

Honor and Freddie (Frederick)

Honor and Archie (Archibald)

Honor and Lawrie (Lawrence)

Honor and Gus (Augustin/Angus/Atticus)

Honor and Rory

Honor and Kit (Christian/Christopher)

Honor and Gabriel

Honor and Theo/Teddy (Theodore)

Honor and Felix

Honor and Toby (Tobias)

Thoughts welcome!

i like Jonty.

amck5700 · 15/09/2012 20:31

a bit wet. but it doesn't matter what we think, you know what would work in your lifestyle/social circle :)

schplappo · 15/09/2012 20:27

Thank you for sharing your own lists with me. There are lots of lovely names on them and some that just wouldn't work with our surname!

What do people think of Jonty? Too much?

I agree that boys names are difficult.

Here are a few from our shortlist including ones we can't use but like anyway:

Tobias
Toby
Seth
Gregory
Lawrence - definitely think Lawrie not Larry!
Adam
Aaron
Peter
Wyatt
Silas

I really like Rory and Benedict as others have suggested. Have added them to our shortlist too!

schplappo · 14/09/2012 20:02

I like Kit but not keen on Christopher so maybe Christian is a good alternative. Will have a think about that.

Gabriel and Honor does sound nice - like a pair of little cherubs!

schlappo, i have a Gus. he was not named for nearly 6 weeks after he was born as i was desperate to call him Gabriel and thought that i could wear down dh. obviously i couldn't. he is Angus on the birth certificate, but never called it.

i also liked Christian - with Kit as a nickname.

also liked:

Arlo

Xavier

Fabian

Benedict

Rafael

Rufus

but Gabriel was by far my favourite. think Honor and Gabriel sound lovely together.

schplappo · 14/09/2012 17:07

HayMax - I clearly am unimaginative as Lawrie is lovely and puts Lawrence onto my list definitely.

Winky - Love Atticus but DH has vetoed it previously. May try and get it on the list again though! And agree that Gus could be a diminutive!

Amck - Oh no!

jaffacakehips · 14/09/2012 16:13

Grin @ amck brilliant.

schplappo let us know what you go with not that i'm nosy with a DD also called Honor

WinkyWinkola · 14/09/2012 15:18

Atticus tenuous Gus as a nn
Rudyard nn Rudy
Tobias
Jeremiah

HayMax · 14/09/2012 14:32

I like Lawrence too and would definitely think the nn would be the lovely Lawrie rather than Larry...

amck5700 · 14/09/2012 14:12

Honor Rory?? - Honorary?? - Maybe not.

amck5700 · 14/09/2012 14:11

Magnus maybe too?

schplappo · 14/09/2012 13:25

ooh thank you. I love, Hector, Hamish (although we're not Scottish so probably shouldn't!), Felix, Gabriel, Rory (love love!), Kit, Benedict, Miles and Jonah. Lots to consider - thank you!
