Rita or Fiona?

Having a terrible time trying to think of a name for PSB. Not sure yet if it's a boy or a girl but want to get two names lined up.

So our current two girl options are Rita (mine) and Fiona (DH).
Which do you prefer?

Fiona

Well, you can guess which I am. I have never disliked my name and the older I get (am 45) the more I love it. I agree it is underused and quite like that. Get called Fi and Fifi sometimes which I am less keen on. I have known very few and currently know none.

Rita Fairclough (or whatever she is called now) meh.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 10/09/2012 21:36

Fiona is lovely. I know a few of many different ages, all are great!
Rita reminds me of Rita Skeeter - the Harry Potter journalist character.

Fiona

lottiegarbanzo · 10/09/2012 21:21

Fiona, by a long way. Lovely, pretty but strong, never quite gone out of fashion but currently underused.

Rita seems to me a 'one hit wonder' of adults in the 60s, so maybe the 30s, which was probably never popular before and never will be again. Lovely Rita meter maid goes around my head.

Anita is similar but more versatlie.

wigglesrock · 10/09/2012 20:35

I am one of the names and I think its a bit meh Grin, but I am lovely!

Goldensunnydays81 · 10/09/2012 20:29

Fiona

I think of Rita Webb, a comedienne of the seventies. I don't like the name....hate "Reet".

Fiona is ok but nothing amazing.

SystemofaDowny · 10/09/2012 14:08

Fiona, but I am biased :) mine has the nickname Ona or Ones (rhyme with Jones) at home, but is also sometimes called Fi or Fifi by other people.

messtins · 10/09/2012 14:00

Margarita makes me think of the drink. Marguerite is nice though,nn Rita, meaning pearl as it's a French derivative of Margaret, or botanical name for a kind of daisy so it's a flower name.

TudorJess · 10/09/2012 13:19

Margarita with Rita as nn is a great idea! You'd also have the option of Maggie.

hatsybatsy · 10/09/2012 12:26

fiona. I only know one under the age of 20 and she's a very confident little girl. Gets called Fi or Feezee (phonetically!) for short.

rita still sounds a bit like someone's Mum to me...

MadBusLady · 10/09/2012 12:02

If you go down the nn route Margarita and Marguerite are nicer than Margaret IMO.

MadBusLady · 10/09/2012 12:01

Both nice but Rita Hayworth was unbelievably gorgeous so Rita!

EdithWeston · 10/09/2012 12:00

Fiona.

Not Rita in UK until at least 5 years after the Corrie character has left the screens.

TittyWhistles · 10/09/2012 11:59

Neither.

bassingtonffrench · 10/09/2012 11:58

both due for a come back I think. how do they go with your other child's name. How about Margaret with nn Rita?

florry88 · 10/09/2012 11:55

Rita makes me immediatley think of Rita Ora who I detest ( not personally i dont know her) but I saw her live , supporting coldplay and I really didnt like how she came across.
