How popular is SOPHIE?

This name is at the top of our list at the moment. I read that it is in the top 10, but I only know 2 young Sophies (one is 6, the other one is 3). For me, it is a family name and it sounds nice with our last name and with the names of our older children.

I know two. I adore the name, but won't use it because it seems to be steadily climbing the charts. Since it's a family name for you though, that's a bit different. If you love it and it has meaning for you, by all means, use it. Smile

Can think of at least 4 off the top of my head.

I'd prefer Sophia.

TudorJess · 09/09/2012 20:43

I don't know of any little Sophies.

nowwearefour · 09/09/2012 20:35

Dd1 has never had a sophie in her class (now in year 3, changed school)- none in the whole school when she was in infants and dd2 has one in her class but there are no others in the school. no friends of mine have had one, but a few people at work have.

I know lots - and if you add up the common variants of names and rework the top 100, it came top for girls on 2010 list (above Eve + variants, Olivia and Isabel + variants).

I think it's a lovely name.

MrsJohnDeere · 09/09/2012 20:21

I don't know any. Sophia very popular here.

surfingluby · 09/09/2012 18:40

Both of my dds have two in their class, there's 7 in the school. I went to school with 1 and my friends daughter who is 16 is called Sophie :-)
It's a lovely name :-)

Dolallytats · 09/09/2012 18:34

I don't know anyone called Sophie but I love the name. It was on our list for if DS had been a girl!!

ilovesprouts · 09/09/2012 18:34

my dd1 is sophie[now 20] i only knew of one wen i had her now its popular:).

Rutherford · 09/09/2012 18:28

Not had a Sophie in any class (or schools) in 5 years.
Know one Sophie (4yo) who is adorable so may be biased when I say I think it is a lovely name. Grin

hellokitty123 · 09/09/2012 15:43

Very popular - has been popular for the past 5-10 years so lots of little girls called Sophie but will probably fall out of favour at some point again.

Personally, I'd choose something a little more timeless and underused.

strandednomore · 09/09/2012 15:34

Quite popular but not totally ridiculous. A few Sophia's around as well. It's pretty though.

Startailoforangeandgold · 09/09/2012 15:31

One aged 12 don't know any little ones. Don't know any Soph/fias either and that's meant to be popular. Lots of Evie, Eva, Emily and Isabella's

lovechoc · 09/09/2012 15:23

Very popular, IMO.

NellyJob · 09/09/2012 15:15

that is dd's name, there's alot of them about, at one point I would call her name in the playground and about 6 little girls would turn round....lovely classic name though ....

SloeFarSloeGood · 09/09/2012 15:15

Consistently top 10, at least one in every class.
