Indy, Emmie, Ellie? Would you ever use them as a first name?

I dont know if it's pregnancy hormones but I'm dying to use one of these names and need some-one to tell me, they aren't sensible enough!

I'd only use any of them as nicknames.

Indie - Indira, Indigo, Belinda
Emmie - Emmeline, Emilia, Emma
Ellie - Eloise, Elodie, Elspeth

Not a first names no don't have the balls I adore Indy as a nn, ace. I'd have India on BC. DH has said no, Sad

The others are just a bit cute for my taste. Emmy is very sweet through.

I have an Indy although she is India on her birth certificate. She also has two more traditional middle names in case she wants to use them when she's older. IMO, Indy suits her down to the ground as she's a real rough and tumble tomboy and our other proposed name (Juliet) wouldn't suit her at all!

It was also our choice as 'Gone with the Wind' is my favourite novel. Ten years ago I'd have called her Scarlett but it's just too popular now and dare I say a little downmarket these days.

I have had a few negative comments and bear in mind that while India is not in the top 100, there are definite pockets where it's very popular.! We've just enrolled our daughter at a prep school in Bucks and out of 70 girls, there are already two Indias!

Ellie is nice but there are loads of girls with this name ATM. Same with Emmie, every toddler group I go to seems to have at least three Emmies.

I have an Emmeline who has become Emmy. I think it gives her options.

I love Indy and Emmie as nicknames for their longer versions: India, Indiana, Emma, Emily and so on. I really dislike Ellie though. It sounds so boring to me.

My DD is one of these names, so obviously I think that there is nothing wrong with them. I love my DD's name, it suits her perfectly.

Not for a girl because their Sunday Best versions are so pretty, seems a waste.

I know an Indi, short for India, which I prefer, as it is not like the short name for the newspaper, The Independent!

I know children called all of those names. On their birth certificates they are India, but she is called Indy; also know a boy name Indiana, nn Indy
Emmy, I love this but she does have to often explain she isn't Emma or Emily
Ellie, I know lots of these, it seems to have been used a while and is the most recognised as a name in its own right.

Maybe imagine the person as a baby, a toddler, an 8 year old, first day at secondary school, at uni, at work as a Indy/Emmy/Ellie.

I'd give a long name and use those as a nickname. Giving them as the whole name seems a bit limiting for the child in the future iyswim. Emmie might be happy to be Emmie when she is 4, but when she is 24 and in an important job interview she might want to introduce herself as Emma/Emilia/Emmeline etc.

I called my daughter India (11 weeks old today Grin) and she is generally known as Indy/indie so yes I would Smile
