How would you pronounce this - As in Helen but with an 'a' on the end or with the stress in the middle syllable, like Hel-ay-na? Just wondering, as I'm not sure myself.

Hel-ay-na
Stress on middle syllable

Love it.

woollywomble · 04/09/2012 17:07

Hmm thanks, seems to be a bit of both. Think I like it either way but wonder if it might be a bit annoying to keep correcting people, depending on which pronunciation you went for.

Helen-a

Hel-AY-na more usual in other European countries

I know 3 or 4 Irish Helenas and they all pronounce it Huh-lee-nah. Emphasis on the second syllable.

Nightwish · 04/09/2012 14:31

I have a friend who pronounces it Helen - ah.

Helena to rhyme with Elena.

sonnieboo · 04/09/2012 14:26

Helen-ah

My middle name is Helena, pronounced Ha-len-a (polish way)

but I also like He-lay-na - hate it when people say it as Helen-a

NarkedRaspberry · 04/09/2012 14:16

Helen-a unless told otherwise. Lovely name however you choose to pronounce it.
