Seren... I know it's popular but is it chavvy?

I'm about to have DD2 and was planning in calling her Seren. I'm English but we live in South Wales and I've loved this name since moving here 3 years ago.

I love the name but don't want to lumber her with a name that is the current equivalent of Sharon or Tracey in England!

So Seren... Just popular or popular AND common?

Gorgeous name, stick with it, especially if you love it (don't worry what some other random stranger thinks)!

Wink You well?

Idlegirl83 · 03/09/2012 17:13

Like 'Seren'....but not so keen on 'Serengeti' which is the longer version of it, popular around here!

Badvoc · 03/09/2012 17:12

I love it :)
Very pretty.

Phew, very glad to hear that! I'm 38.5 weeks pregnant & overheard a Welsh lady today saying she hated hearing mums screaming Seren everywhere now and chose not to call her daughter that because of it. The way she said it, sounded like she meant it was chavvy.
Seren it is then!

No, it's classy.

Have you watched Abadas on CBeebies? Seren is a singing bat and v cute.

mrsbugsywugsy · 03/09/2012 16:37

It's a lovely name. I only know one and she's my age.

MrsJohnDeere · 03/09/2012 16:32

Not chavvy IMHO.

Is it popular? I don't know any.....

tanfastic · 03/09/2012 16:25

I know one Seren and the family is certainly not what I'd call chav. I love it.

iwantavuvezela · 03/09/2012 16:22

It's welsh for star ....

GoByTrain · 03/09/2012 16:18

I love this name - but then someone on here said it sounded like a gypsy's name (if I remember rightly). Mind you, what's wrong with a gypsy's name?

Anyhow, back to topic: it is sooo hard to work out which names will be future Sharon/Tracey names - given that Sharon, at least, is an old Biblical and - were it not for the baggage - a rather beautiful name.

PS doesn't Seren means 'star' too? - which I also like.

TudorJess · 03/09/2012 16:17

Hadn't thought of it as chavvy but I do think it's getting faddy now.

FelicitywasSarca · 03/09/2012 16:14

Not chavvy/common at all.

TittyWhistles · 03/09/2012 16:11

No,it's a great name. Up and coming, I would say, rather than popular.

Isn't it scandinavian?
I haven't heard it being associated with chavvishness at all
