Just browsing name threads for inspiration and noticed that many of you consider meanings behind names.

When I named DS this never occurred to me and tbh I just puck a name that I like the sound if.

How important would you rate meanings in your choices?

Nope. Most of the original or old-fashioned meanings are unknown or irrelevant today.

same as my dd lljkk. it did vaguely worry me but I chose to ignore it.

lljkk · 02/09/2012 11:22

No, never worried about it. DC1's middle name means "lame"! It's very popular name & he's not the least bit lame.

Mine all have one family name & one name we just liked.

Yes, anything with a meaning I didn't like was struck off the list immediately, regardless of how much I liked the sound.

slartybartfast · 02/09/2012 11:18

yes, but ignored the meaning as I didnt like it

minipie · 02/09/2012 11:16

I have picked the name first and foremost because I like it but then once I had a short list I did check the meanings just to make sure it wasn't something horrid.

ceeveebee · 02/09/2012 10:31

Right DD is "my god is a vow" and DS "famous ruler". Told you I didn't look into it!
Their middle names have a special meaning to us as they are grandparents names.

ceeveebee · 02/09/2012 10:28

No I didn't consider, I don't even know what the meanings are now

Badgerina · 02/09/2012 10:26

One of the middle names we've chosen for DS2 has a lovely meaning that was the deciding factor for choosing it Grin

LadyKooKoo · 02/09/2012 10:26

Really important for me. DD's name means beloved.
