Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Slightly off topic as it was an adult, but I taught in Hong Kong once and at the back of my pupil's report book was his parents' names. His father was called Alan Wan King Mann. (A. Wan King Mann). Oh dear...

WantAnOrange · 30/08/2012 10:42

I heard someone (a child) call over to an Addios (don't know if I've spelt that right). Doesn't that mean Goodbye?

NCForNow · 30/08/2012 10:38

Rainbow and Moon. Heard in Adelaide.

usualsuspect · 30/08/2012 10:38

I like Neveah.

thebeesnees79 · 30/08/2012 10:36

Finbar, Zippy & Ignatious. Oh and Neveah, which is heaven spelt backwards lmao

TheonlyWayisGerard · 30/08/2012 10:34

Kaycee-Mai. Im not sure where to start on what's wrong with it. Also know of someone who called their poor child Ralph Scoop. But I really hate Ralph anyway, sorry op.

stressedHEmum · 30/08/2012 10:33

In our local paper, recently, amongst all the more sedate baby names was a tiny little baby boy called Tojo. I thought it must have been the name of a football player because his dad was wearing a team shirt, but I'm told not.

The child was not of Japanese heritage, either.

scentednappyhag · 30/08/2012 10:30

I LOVE Ruby Marmalade!
I know a lot of Pixies, which works for a toddler, but not so much an adult in my opinion.

CatPower · 30/08/2012 10:22

ErnestTheBavarian, not Gravesend sadly, but Glasgow. There are some amazing/horrific names up here, but I think Pocahontas (POKEEEEEY!) is my favourite.

HoratiaWinwood · 30/08/2012 10:21

my niece treated her at A&E it's true.

Funny how it's never actually the person claiming it's true that encountered a real La-a. It's always their niece/aunt/colleague/neighbour. But then if you ask the neighbour it was actually their niece/cousin/boss/teacher ... and so on ad infinitum.

Which is how urban myths work.

laptopwieldingharpy · 30/08/2012 10:18

In RL: Cyrano & Gichelle....
In tabloids: apple and Moroccan!

BumsyClugger · 30/08/2012 10:12

Twins called Lucie-Mae and Gracie-Mae. Just found it a bit weird, like they'd never have their own separate identities.

I heard a father shout (in Poundland Blush ) "Hurry up Galahad!" or however its spelt.

Rachog · 30/08/2012 10:06

Our rather posh boss has a niece called.rainbow Lilly, and another colleague has a gd called lula, not short for tallulah or anything. I quite like it though.

I have soooo just outed myself if anyone from work is a mner.

Astr0naut · 30/08/2012 10:06

There's a Delilah in our local primary. Do these people have no cultural references at all? If you don't know the bible story, there's always a danger of a lifetime pursued by: "My, my, My..."

I know of a Kc, although looking at the ONs thing, that's rising in popularity.

Dh has a bit of a penchant for the names of fallen women and barbarians: Tallulah and Jezebel, or Wolf Bloodaxe.

Luckily, he didn't have the deciding vote when we named our dcs.

Tittywhistles · 30/08/2012 10:05

My friend used to have a rabbit called Storm

everlong Tulisafromxfactor's real name is Tula...
Which I quite like hactually

Heard of a 10yr old Dawson recently. After dawsons creek I reckon.
I love unusual names but some are just plain ugly

SecretNutellaMedallist · 30/08/2012 10:03

I do know of a Kal-El. Nice little boy, mum usually just uses Kal for him.

YeahBuddy · 30/08/2012 10:01

I also read an article once about a woman who was pregnant with triplets. She already had a DS named Flash and I remember her wanting to call one of the triplets Moss but I can't remember the other two. They were all equally Hmm though...

wearingpurple · 30/08/2012 10:00

On holiday last week there was a little girl called Syria. A pretty name, I think, but given that it's constantly in the news in atrocious contexts, it seems a bit unfortunate.

Giddypants · 30/08/2012 09:58

I used to work in a paeds clinic, came across some beautiful names, and some not so beautiful names
Rainbow-moonbeam
Clamidia
Laybia
Meanchor
Chardonnay
Savannah
Channel
And twins elli-Mae and Lilly-fay which I swing from aw really sweet to oh dear

YeahBuddy · 30/08/2012 09:57

It's not that it's that unusual Usual Confused I just can't help associating it with a big soppy Standard Poodle :)

DrSeuss · 30/08/2012 09:56

Have taught an Astra, a Tekeila (spelled just like that), a Fiery Britania, a Leeanne, a Harley Davison, a Marley, a Phoenix and an AmyJ. At son's school there is a Ruby Marmalade, an Eden, a Meadow and an Angel.

I have known children called Fox, Charleyboy and Twinkle (a boy). I know an adult called Michael Michael.

Old fashioned girl's names are very popular here (Dora, Beatrice) and I quite like them. But I bet the name Fanny never regains its popularity..

fluffyracoon · 30/08/2012 09:52

I have name changed for this because I would be instantly recognisable.

R J Paul. That was his full name. The R and the J were not short for anything, that was his given name.

CremeEggThief · 30/08/2012 09:50

Not sure of the spelling, but I knew of a girl called Elinestra Dick, once upon a time!
