True shockers, Spike's parents could be Spike Milligan fans but I don't think Spike was Mr Milligan's real name was it? For this poor lad it is!

AndiMac · 30/08/2012 17:20

I went to school with a girl whose name was Secret. I never thought anything about it at the time, being too young to think much other than it was a bit odd, but then as I got older, I kept thinking what kind of baggage are you giving your kid with that name?

mignonette · 30/08/2012 17:19

Runawaysimba

Maybe that child called Sativa had parents who liked a smoke? Sativa is one of two varieties of Marijuana plants. The other is Indica. Sativa plants produce marijuana with a more 'energising' effect whereas Indica has a more mellow result.

And no, I'm not a regular blow-hard. Have to know this stuff because of the increase in admissions of young cannabis smokers on psych units these days.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 30/08/2012 17:19

Why on earth would anyone be astounded at the name T-Jay Confused
Levi is hardly a modern name. It's biblical ffs.
Tallulah is a real name.
L-a is a racist urban myth
Sulumi was probably Salome
Lots of the other names are common in Africa e.g Precious and Lucky 'yelled in Asda' are NN.

Why is MN so obsessed with what other people call therein children?

EcoLady · 30/08/2012 17:19

NK Flops for Florence I can sort of get, but she definitely called her Flopsie in full. There were 3 sisters whose full names I heard: all ended in ..sie/...sy and she shortened them by just knocking the ie/y off.

i like Savannah :)

each to their own, one of my ds's has a name that often gets slated on mnet, but we like it and so does he.

i also like storm and tallulah and a few others that have been mentioned on this thread actually.

cheyenne was mentioned and i have a cousin called that, they live in oklahoma and its a fairly normal, almost common name there, she is a lovely girl (well young woman now)

i know a blue and a nemo, both lovely boys, also a Beau (girl) who is nice as well and we even knew a Zebedee for a while, he was a fabulous little boy and his parents were nice as well.

FunnysInLaJardin · 30/08/2012 17:09

there was a Twinkle in the maternity ward when DS1 was born.

xmasevebundle · 30/08/2012 17:09

did you know that 'melina' means something like 'dirty squat' in Polish? hehe

WoodlandHills · 30/08/2012 17:03

Oh and how could I forget!! There is a Maverick (boy) and a Corvette (girl) in ds's class

Shortbutsosweet · 30/08/2012 17:02

Lol blue shoes!
Melina! A name that makes nurses run heeehee.
I know a unique and antique sisters .

NK2b1f2 · 30/08/2012 16:59

Eco That would probably be a nickname for Florence. I know a girl with that name who's usually called Flossie...

EcoLady · 30/08/2012 16:58

Worst one I heard recently was a woman yelling "Flops! Flops! Flopsie! Flopseeeeeeeee!!!". I was expecting a dog or lost rabbit to come bounding up, but no, it was a girl of about 7 to.

She calls her child "Flops"?!?!?!

Kayano · 30/08/2012 16:58

Saffire

hattymattie · 30/08/2012 16:57

I know two French sisters - the eldest is Sandy and the sister is Ocean Confused

TheCraicDealer · 30/08/2012 16:57

My boss is called Dawson and he's near 60. Mind you, this is due to some odd "first son named after Mum's maiden name" tradition in their family, not James Van Der Beek.

Frontpaw · 30/08/2012 16:57

Truly Scrumptious! Some names he are just a bit forrin. I know little Salomes, Ulysses, Astrids... And no one would bat an eyelid when the Kia go home for e summer.

Is the made up ones or weirdly spelled ones that I wonder about. Just what are the parents trying to say about themselves and their kids?

Pop stars and celebs get away with it because they and their kids are so rich or well connected they are hardly likely to get bullied at the local secondary modern are they?

squoosh · 30/08/2012 16:56

MK?

Sounds like a Blackpool brothel.

Oh dear.

Badvoc · 30/08/2012 16:55

Savannah isn't a bad name...I just don't like it.
Don't like my own - much more traditional name - much either tbh...
I have always wished I was called Megan for some reason (I read the thorn birds at an impressionable age)

outtolunchagain · 30/08/2012 16:55

I don't want to make this too identifiable but I came accross a little girl, known as Hattie but her christian name was an area of New York and her surname a man who wears a suit of armour .Poor girl, only about 6 at the moment but I dread her teenage yearsGrin

mathanxiety · 30/08/2012 16:54

Yes poison ivy gives you a horrible rash but it is not really a member of the ivy family. Real ivy is a climbing evergreen vine, with dark green leaves. It's a member of the ginseng family.

WoodlandHills · 30/08/2012 16:51

Oh yeah and I used to work as a medical receptionist and was ASTOUNDED when a mum bought her two kids in for an appointment, one was called "T-Jay" (spelt EXACTLY like that) and the other one was called "Migell" (like Miguel, which would have been a normal name, but like she couldn't spell it properly) Confused

NellyJob · 30/08/2012 16:48

true the only little Precious I met was African.
the very worst have to be Jamie Oliver's kids..
what are they.. something like Petal, Honey boo boo and Buddy Bear?
I mean ffs...those poor poor children.., they sound like soft toys.

Zara1984 · 30/08/2012 16:46

woodland was the name possibly Salome (pronounced badly!)?

Someone I went to uni with named her baby girl Bentley Princess.

A friend of a friend (well an old uni friend, really just a FB friend now) called her daughter Moet.

In my experience girls get landed with the weirder names....
