Perhaps she will end up Belle Juliet

MollyMurphy · 31/08/2012 22:38

I like Mae and Juliet.

I dislike Vivienne and Sylvia (actually I loathe Sylvia TBH)

Rachel is meh

mummabug · 31/08/2012 22:37

He likes girly, 'pretty' names. Isabella, Bella, Poppy etc etc.......he thinks my suggestions are horrid and cruel!

OP posts:
Devora · 31/08/2012 22:23

no no no no no Rachel and Julia SO much classier!

mummabug · 31/08/2012 22:18

Thanks again for your opinions.
OH is definitely against EVERY SINGLE ONE. He wants Bella (NO!) but will compromise and go for Belle. Hmmm.

Sorry but i don't like any of your names except Juliet. Juliet is really lovely though.

lakeofshiningwaters · 31/08/2012 08:54

Rachel - think it's a lovely name for a baby, so unusual to hear it now.
Juliet - fine
Sylvia - beautiful, think it's a very delicate name. There's a fair few Sylvie's around here all with the nn Vivi
Mae - no, dislike the spelling
Vivienne - beautiful name, but I like Vivian better. Isn't that one of Angelina's children so probably having a rise in popularity because of it?

exoticfruits · 31/08/2012 07:26

Rachel is lovely and Juliet second.
I only like May with that spelling.
The other 2 are OK.

Yellowchair · 31/08/2012 07:15

Juliet- like but know four babies born this year named this
Mae- Love this
Vivienne- Dislike
Rachel- Like dont know any little Rachels

mummabug · 31/08/2012 01:03

Stellan thanks for all your suggestions, I love Violet but fear its becoming very popular?

*Mae

OP posts:
mummabug · 31/08/2012 00:59

Devora I agree Julia is lovely and preferable to the nicknames of Juliet!

OP posts:
mummabug · 31/08/2012 00:58

Thanks for all your feedback!!

Cece and others, i agree about nicknames for Juliet...jules or julie...no no. whereas viv or vivi is fine. As is Rach.

Have totally gone off May especially after your feedback ;)...and Sylvia not as keen as the others.

However, DH is totally against Juliet, Vivienne or Rachel. Gah! His favourite is Bella (never in a million years - no offence to anyone who has used the
name, I think twilight buried that one for me!)

openerofjars · 29/08/2012 23:50

It is a total guess! I just think it's so beautiful. But I don't think it will Olivia, iyswim.

And I have had a glass of wine.

cece · 29/08/2012 23:50

Juliet - OK

Sylvia - not keen but love Sylvie strangely

Mae - only if spelt May

Rachel - really dislike this name, no idea why

Vivienne - OK

Out of those names I would probably go for Vivienne as I prefer Viv to Jools. Grin

Devora · 29/08/2012 23:47

I LOVE Rachel - I wanted it for dd1 but dp wasn't keen. A lot of people weren't keen, actually (and it's been a long time since I met a baby Rachel). However, they're all mad fools. And wrong. And I think this would be the perfect name for your baby Smile.

Otherwise, I like Julia and Sylvie more than Juliet and Sylvia. Julia is lovely, I think (just not as lovely as Rachel).

Vivienne I dislike, and Mae doesn't do wonders for me.

Viviennemary · 29/08/2012 23:44

I'd like to see these so called old fashioned names make a comeback. Already Violet and Iris are around which are both lovely. Going with V what about Valerie and Veronica. Don't think I know either one of these under about 70!

mathanxiety · 29/08/2012 23:39

Juliet - gorgeous classic English name
Sylvia - has a very sophisticated 1930s feel to it imo
Mae - West, sadly
Rachel - lovely Biblical classic
Vivienne - French/international and again has a lovely classic 1930s feel imo

You have hit the gorgeous name jackpot with all but Mae (because of Mae West not being a very classy image).

Juliet, Sylvia, Rachel and Vivienne are lovely -- you couldn't go wrong.

Sorry, no help at all..

StormyEyes · 29/08/2012 23:26

Oh, no, Opener, what makes you say that Vivienne is going to make a comeback?
We have a 3 year old Vivienne, and I love the name, but don't want it to get Olivia status! I actually prefer the male spelling, Vivian, but for simplicity, went for the more used spelling.

Lots of ladies in their 50s/60s complimented me on choosing an old fashioned name, which kind of surprised me because I don't know any old
I really love it so no surprise OP, it gets my vote

openerofjars · 29/08/2012 22:23

Juliet - gorgeous

Sylvia - not sure it's shaken off it's middle-aged associations yet but it is lovely and maybe in ten or twenty years it will be back in fashion, so you could be ahead of the curve or lumber your DD with a frumpy name. Also, Sylvia Plath? Not cheery associations and if Plath is still on reading lists in 15 years she will get the piss ripped royally. A bit too difficult. How about Sylvie?

Mae - very, very short. I am biased because I have a short name and hated it as a child because it has no nickname potential. But then I do have ishoos. Grin

Rachel - nope. Again, can't really shorten it affectionately. It'll be massive in 2042, though.

Vivienne - lovely. Vivi is a fab diminutive and it is about to have a big comeback.

You have ace taste in names.

roundynotsquary · 29/08/2012 22:12

Love Sylvia and Vivienne but Dh vetoed both

manicinsomniac · 29/08/2012 22:11

Juliet - love it, one of my favourite. But prefer it spelt Juliette because I'm pncy like that!

Sylvia - don't really like it. Sylvie is ok as a nickname though

Rachel - It's fine. I know one little Rachel but so many adults that I still find it a bit dull I suppose.

Mae - Quite like it but agree it's a little short

Vivienne - Quite like it.

Definitely Juliet for me. Juliet Mae perhaps?

Rachel130690 · 29/08/2012 21:50

Not in any way biased but I think Rachel is a class name, I've always loved my name :) and it may be around a long time but I would never consider it dull. Also I was the only Rachel in my year group. I love my name.

I also love the name Juliet I think it's a beautiful name.

There my top two choices :)

pixiestix · 29/08/2012 21:45

Vivienne, Sylvia and Mae are all beautiful. Smile
Rachel and Juliet seem plain to me.

LynetteScavo · 29/08/2012 21:42

Juliet - Love

Sylvia - dislike

Mae - dislike

Rachel - a bit dull

Vivienne - I really like it for someone elses child.
